ST. PETER, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict Hockey Team (7-5, 5-2 MIAC) had a four-game winning streak ended by No. 1 ranked Gustavus (12-1, 7-0 MIAC), 5-2, Friday (Jan. 13) in MIAC play at the Don Roberts Ice Rink.
The Bennies, which will host Gustavus on Saturday (Jan. 14) at 4 pm at Ritsche Arena at the MAC in St. Cloud, came into the match on one of the best starts in school history. Riding a four-game win streak, CSB had moved to second in the league. It was the team's best start since opening 6-2 with a 3-1 MIAC mark in 2000-01. However, Gustavus scored four goals in the opening period and added one in the second period to build the lead. CSB scored the final two goals of the game with tallies in the second and third periods. With the loss, Saint Ben's dropped to 5-2 and third place in the MIAC.

Sami Hackley recorded her second goal of the season in the second period and
Emma Rooks tallied her sixth goal of the season in the third period. Sophomore
Shauna Miller was credited with assists on both goals and now has four on the season.
Chloe Lewis also assisted on the goal by Rooks.
After a scoreless opening 10 minutes, Gustavus scored four goals, including two by power play, in the final 10 minutes of the period to lead, 4-0. The Gusties took advantage of a pair of power play goals and used that momentum to build the lead. In the opening period, the Gusties had a pair of power play goals by Kristina Press at 11:58 off an assist by Emily Olson, and, at 13:27, off another assist by Olson. Later, the Gusties scored at 15:09 when Brooke Power converted on an assist by Gabby Slykas and Margot Bettman. Then, at 19:31, Olson added the Gusties' fourth goal off an assist from Press and Hailey Holland.
In the second period, CSB had six shots and was able to get Saint Ben's on the board when Hackley tallied a goal off an assist from Miller at 17:42. Just three minutes earlier, Gustavus took a 5-0 lead when Holland converted a goal off an assist from Press at 14:14 of the second period.
At 8:15 of the third period, Rooks scored her sixth goal of the season off assists from Miller and Lewis. The power play goal by Rooks put her in a tie for the team goals lead with
Aurora Opsahl as both players have six on the year.
For just the second time in 12 games this season, CSB lost the shots category as the Gusties owned a 31-to-11 edge. Gustavus was also 2-of-7 on power play opportunities and CSB was 1-of-4. In terms of faceoffs, CSB won 28-of-74 and Gustavus, 46-of-74.

Ally Frantzick, who dropped to 6-4-0 on the season, had 26 saves on 31 shots. For the Gusties, Katie McCoy is now 12-1-0 after recording nine saves on 11 shots.
