ST. PAUL, Minn. - The College of Saint Benedict soccer team's offensive hot streak continued as they took on Northwestern on the road Monday evening in St. Paul. Â
The Bennies started off in the attacking zone early in the first half, not giving much time for Northwestern to get in a groove. CSB would get 11 shots in the first 15 minutes of the game, five of them on goal being saved by the Eagles goalkeeper. It didn't take much time after for the offensive control to pay off. In the 18th minute, Alli Voss scored her fifth goal of the season with the helper going to Lana Krautkremer to make it 1-0 for the Bennies. The scoring floodgates had officially been opened after that in the first half, Alli Voss adding her second goal of the game just five minutes later in the 23rd minute with the assist from Grace Fitzgibbons to make it 2-0. Another five minutes of play went by, and another goal was scored by the Bennies, this time Chloe Miller gets the ball in the back of the net to score her first goal of the season with help from Caralyn Conners in the 28th minute. Following Miller's goal, Addison Stephani would make it 4-0 with the assist from Emma Young. Then to wrap up the first half, in the 34th minute, Ellie Piette would score her first collegiate goal as a Bennie with the assists from Sydney Burns and Grace Fitzgibbons to go up 5-0 over the Eagles. Goalkeeper Paige Kahlmeyer would stop one shot in the half that she started. Â
Goalkeeper Annie Waters would make the second half start in goal for the Bennies, seeing two shots and making both saves early. The Bennie offense would quickly pick right back up where they left off, making it 6-0 just five minutes into the second half with a goal from Ellie Wohnoutka off an assist from Caralyn Conners. In the 56th minute the score would jump to 7-0 as Grace Fitzgibbons would score her first collegiate goal with an assist from Addison Stephani. Â
In the 63rd minute, first year goalkeeper Madisen Carter would get the nod in net for the first time this season to finish out the rest of the game. Annie Waters had two saves in the 18 minutes she played in the second half. Carter would make her first save in the 71st minute but a few minutes later the Eagles would break through the Bennie defense and break their shutout streak, making it 7-1. This would be the final score at the buzzer and bring CSB soccer to a 4-game win streak. Madisen Carter finished her 26 minutes played in the second half with two saves. The Bennies held a lead in shots over the Eagles 31-9 and in shots on goal 22-6. Â
Next up, the College of Saint Benedict soccer team is on the road again to the Twin Cities. This time to Minneapolis for a MIAC matchup against Augsburg on Saturday, October 1st with kickoff beginning at 1 p.m.Â
