Bennie soccer's big second half over Auggies extends win streak to five

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The College of Saint Benedict soccer team was back in conference action this weekend, this time taking their offensive pressure to Minneapolis to take on the Auggies.

The Bennies started out the first half of the game in an unusual position from their previous few games, with not many opportunities to score. Alli Voss got the first shot off just 55 seconds in, but the Auggie goalkeeper scooped up the ball for the save. CSB goalkeeper Annie Waters made a save in the ninth minute to keep it even at 0-0. The back and forth between the two teams is how the first half continued until the buzzer sounded for half time.

The second half started similarly to the first, both teams trading shots on goal but the goalkeepers saved them. In the 57th minute, the Bennies broke past the Auggie defense, Caralyn Conners netting one with a helper from Lana Krautkremer to make it 1-0 for CSB. Then a little break in the action again, with not many chances for either team in front of the nets to get shots off. However, now the Bennies had their offense warming up after their first goal. In minute 73, Alli Voss scored her seventh goal of the season with an assist from Addison Stephani making it 2-0 in favor of the Bennies.

The Auggies answered back a minute later, slipping a goal past the Bennies defense and goalkeeper Paige Kahlmeyer to cut the lead to 2-1. The one goal lead wasn't enough for the Bennies though, as just four minutes later Caralyn Conners added her second goal of the game with a helper from Lindsay Mueller to make it 3-1. In the 80th minute, just two minutes after the third Bennie goal was scored, CSB went up 4-1 after Sydney Burns scored on the Auggie net with the assist going to Ella Young.

Winding down the final five minutes of the game, the Bennies added one final goal, with Abby Willenbring scoring an unassisted tally to put the final score at 5-1 in favor of Saint Benedict. Goalkeepers Annie Waters and Paige Kahlmeyer combined for a total of 4 saves in the 90 minutes they split. CSB posted a 15-11 advantage in shots and a significant advantage in shot on goal of 11-5. The Bennie soccer team extended their win streak to five games.

The Bennies are back at home next as they take on Concordia in an MIAC matchup on October 5th, with kick off scheduled for 4 p.m.
