Voss delivers dramatic game-winning goal in final seconds to lift CSB Soccer to a 1-0 win over Concordia-Moorhead

CSB has won six straight matches with a 21-to-2 goal differential in that stretch

ST. JOSEPH, MINN. – A dramatic goal in the final seconds (89:40) of regulation by sophomore forward Alli Voss lifted the College of Saint Benedict Soccer team to a 1-0 win over Concordia-Moorhead (Minn.) in MIAC action Wednesday evening at the CSB Soccer Field.

Voss scored a MIAC-best eighth goal of the season with her fourth game-winner for the Bennies, which has won six straight matches. CSB, which stands 8-3 overall and 4-1 for second in the MIAC, is 4-0 at the friendly confines of CSB Soccer Field.

CSB Head Coach Steve Kimble was pleased with the team's persistent non-stop energy, which resulted in a 13-to-4 advantage in shots and another victory.

"We are very proud of our team to play literally every minute of the contest with energy. When you say whistle-to-whistle, this is what that looks like," he said.

The Bennies, which faces St. Olaf College at Northfield, Minn., on Saturday at 1 pm, has been dominant in the six-game winning streak. CSB has outscored opponents, 21-2, matching explosive offense with shutdown defense. Again today, that was the difference as CSB allowed just two shots and committed just five fouls. While both teams had opportunities in the opening 45 minutes of play, the score was deadlocked at 0-0 at the half-time break. And, the match appeared headed for a tie until Voss's heroics put in a goal with 20 seconds to play.

In 11 matches in 2022, Voss is among the league's top performers in various categories including sitting first in goals with eight, first in game-winning goals with four, second in points with 18 and second in shots on goal with 22.

In goal, senior Paige Kahlmeyer was solid with her first shutout while recording a pair of saves. This season, she has allowed just three goals for a goals against average that leads the MIAC. Plus, she has 24 saves for an .889 save percentage which is second in the league.

With the victory, CSB now has a 31-14 all-time series lead over Concordia College, a squad it has defeated six straight times. In addition, the Bennies have a 19-8 home mark against the Cobbers.
