NORTHFIELD, MINN. – St. Olaf College (5-5-1, 3-2-1 MIAC) won a tough defensive battle against the College of Saint Benedict (8-4, 4-2 MIAC) in MIAC soccer action on Saturday afternoon.
With the setback, the Bennies had a six-match winning streak come to an end. As a result, CSB is now 8-4 overall with a 4-2 league mark, which places the Bennies second in the MIAC. St. Olaf improved to 5-5-1 and 3-2-1 (7th) in the league with the victory at home.
"We anticipated a one-goal match going into this one (with St. Olaf)," said St. Ben's Head Coach
Steve Kimble. "Unfortunately, it wasn't in our favor at the end. We played hard and did a lot of positive things. St. Olaf has a quality team and worked hard for that win. Hats off to them," he said.
Sadie Klassen of St. Olaf scored the only goal of the match at 49:51 off an assist from Tessa Anderson. She hit a left-footed finish that found the lower left corner of the goal.
It was an evenly played contest as both teams put up 13 shots. CSB recorded four shots on goal to seven for St. Olaf, which owned a 5-4 edge in corners. Both teams committed seven fouls.
In goal, CSB's Paige Kahlmeer continued to shine as she allowed just one goal with six saves against 13 shots while playing 90 minutes.
Abby Willenbring had a team-high three shots while
Chloe Miller,
Caralyn Conners and
Ella Young each had two shots. Conners had two shots on goal and Young had one.
On Wednesday, Oct. 12, the Bennies will host Bethel University at 4 p.m. in a match at the CSB Soccer Field.
