CSB Swimming and Diving retains hold on 7th place after day 2 of Rochester Invite

ROCHESTER, Minn. – On day two (Saturday, Dec. 3) of the Rochester Invite, the College of Saint Benedict Swimming and Diving Team was again outstanding in the pool at the Rochester-Olmstead County Recreation Center Natatorium.

With a number of personal-bests and season bests among individuals and relays, the Bennies retained its 7th place finish among the nine teams with 383.5 points. CSB competed against schools from NCAA DI, NCAA DII and NCAA DIII in the competition which concludes on Sunday in Rochester, Minn.

The final day of the competition will begin Sunday with prelims at 9:30 a.m. and finals at 5 p.m. Events will include the 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 100 IM, 200 fly, 1,650 freestyle and 400 free relay (finals only).

Among the highlights Saturday was CSB's group of 200 free relay squads. A team of Lindsay Smutka (24.93), Emi Wagner (24.29), Rachel Schlueter (24.79) and Jocie Larson (24.30) finished fifth in 1:38.31, a season-best. Wagner, Larson and Schlueter all had PRs. Three other CSB teams competed with the team of Mads Slavik (25.61), Liz Hansen (26.03), Mikayla Haskamp (25.87) and Hannah Tatge (25.12) clocking 1:42.63 for 21st place. Finishing 26th in 1:47.75 was a team of Morgan Stout (27.42), Megan Bartels (27.22), Ellie Blattner (27.35) and Megan Pattee (25.76). In 27th place was a team of Grace Weberg (26.65), Katie Brewer (28.75), Emma Vicker (27.08) and Maddy Ahlquist (28.75) which clocked 1:53.44.

Senior Molly Johanson had another solid swim in the 400 IM as she finished 12th with a season-best of 4:48.79. In the C Final, Fiona Rosko was 17th with a season-best clocking of 4:47.94.

First-year Lauren Sitzman placed 22nd in the 200 freestyle as she had a season-best clocking of 2:02.40, cutting more than two seconds off her prelim time.

In the 100 breaststroke, junior standout Emi Wagner was 22nd in 1:12.28 while first-year Megan Bartels was 24th in 1:13.48 although she had a time of 1:11.73 in the prelims which was a personal-best and a team-best this year.

In the 100 backstroke, Lindsay Smutka placed ninth with a clocking of 58.83 with Mads Slavik, 18th, in 1:00.42 (season-best) and first-year Rachel Schlueter taking 21st in 1:01.09, also a PR.

CSB had four teams compete in the 400 medley relay including a team of Rachel Schlueter (1:02.36), Fiona Rosko (1:08.83), Laura Jennings (1:01.69) and Mikayla Haskamp (55.98) placing 15th in 4:08.86.

In 17th place with a time of 4:10.18 was a squad of Mads Slavik (1:02.96), Molly Johanson (1:11.39), Lindsay Smutka (1:00.28) and Emi Wagner (55.55).

Another team was 25th in 4:12.50 with relay members of Lauren Sitzman (1:03.12), Megan Bartels (1:11.50), Mary Ridgeway (1:02.98) and Hannah Tatge (54.90). Also, the team of Ellie Blattner (1:06.10), Liz Hansen (1:13.16), Jocie Larson (1:03.18) and Grace Weberg (57.94) finished 26th with a clocking of 4:20.38.
