CSB Hockey moves to 2-0 in MIAC play after a 4-0 win against Concordia College

CSB sits in tie for first place in MIAC after goals from Rooks, Kreamer, Boerboom and Opsahl

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict (3-3, 2-0 MIAC) won its third consecutive match by registering a season-high in goals in a 4-0 victory over Concordia College - Moorhead in MIAC action on Saturday at the Ritsche Arena.

CSB improved its conference mark to 2-0 and sit in a first-place tie with Gustavus, St. Olaf and Hamline. The three-game winning streak is the longest stretch since taking four straight last Jan. 26-29, 2021. CSB also won its first home match in three tries this year.

After defeating Concordia College at Moorhead, 3-2, on Friday, the Bennies started fast and continued its offensive pressure all night. CSB scored a goal in the first period and three more in the second for a 4-0 lead and never looked back. Defensively, senior goalie Ally Frantzick of Woodbury, Minn., had her second shutout in three matches and her fifth of her career. She won her 10th career match and moved to 3-2-0 on the season.

CSB, which had a 35-to-13 shots advantage, scored at 2:06 when sophomore Emma Rooks of Rogers, Minn., found the net. Earning assists on the play was Morgan Cromwell and Kennedy Morris. Rooks would have the best night of her career with a goal – the second of her career - and two assists.

In the second period, the Bennies broke through for three goals and with it secured the home win. Sophomore Sami Boerboom of Forest Lake, Minn., scored at 5:04 off an assist from both Rooks and Presley Kreamer, who both had big nights for CSB. Boerboom scored her first goal of the year and the seventh of her career.

At the 11:12 mark of the second period, first-year Presley Kreamer of Brooklyn Park, Minn., had her first career goal off an assist from Rooks. Then, Aurora Opsahl, a sophomore forward from Duluth, Minn., finished the scoring off with her fourth goal of the season off an assist from Corrine Brown.  Opsahl now has seven career goals as she leads the team in scoring with seven points.

For the sixth straight match, CSB outshot its opponent and now has a 236-to-124 shots edge over opponents as well as a 14-13 edge in goals. CSB has 111 saves while opponents have faced a barrage of shots and registered 222 saves.
