COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict track and field team had a productive day against Concordia Sunday in Collegeville.
The Bennies won 10 events and recorded five times or marks in the top 10 in program history, and also won the dual meet 91-64 at the McNelly Spectrum on the SJU campus.
First year
Fiona Smith made history again, recording her third school records in four meets with the team. After finishing four seconds away from the indoor mile record at Bethel on Feb. 20, Smith recorded a six-second personal-best time and set the record with a winning time of 5:00.12. That is two seconds faster than the previous record of 5:02.79 – set by Allison Kosobud in 2014 – and is currently good for third in Division III. Smith is now in the top four in Division III in the mile, 3K and 5K.
The Bennies hadn't run a 300-meter dash since the 2001 season, but two members of the team ran it for the first time in their careers and jumped into the top 10 in CSB history Sunday.
