2021: INDOOR: Competed in four meets as a senior ... recorded three individual top-10 finishes ... OUTDOOR: Qualified for the MIAC Championships in the 400 and javelin and with the 4x400 relay team ... finished seventh in the javelin, 19th in the 400 and seventh with the relay team ... recorded a career-best 200 time (28.57) and javelin mark (31.90) at the La Crosse Last Chance Meet on May 20 ... recorded seven individual top-five finishes ... won the javelin twice.

2020: INDOOR: Competed in five meets as a junior ... recorded a trio of top-10 finishes ... OUTDOOR: The 2020 outdoor season was canceled by the NCAA on March 13 due to the COVID19 pandemic.

2019: INDOOR: Competed at the MIAC Championships with CSB's distance medley relay team and finished ninth ... finished in the top 10 at every meet she competed in, including third in the 800 at the St. Olaf Women's Invite ... INDOOR: took 12th in the javelin at the MIAC Championships ... also finsihed ninth with CSB's 3,200-meter relay team ... recorded a career-best 800 time at Tommie Twilight.

2018: INDOOR: Part of the CSB basketball team and did not compete ... OUTDOOR: qualified for the MIAC Championships in the javelin and took 18th ... competed in five meets as a first year ... also ran the 800 and the 4x400-meter relay in her first season.

High School: Merten is a 2017 graduate of Holdingford High School. She swam for one year, ran five years of track and cross country, and played four years of basketball. She received all-conference awards in basketball (2016, 2017), cross country (2011-15 and 2017), and track (2012 and 2014-17). In basketball she also received all-section (2016) and all-section honorable mention (2017). Her proudest moment in basketball was when she made a winning shot under pressure and her team stormed the court.

Personal: Johanna is the daughter of Ileana and Kelly. Being a collegiate student-athlete, she says, pushes her to work harder to achieve her full potential. She is undecided on her major.
