ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict soccer is back for another Saturday home game this weekend after a double overtime tie against Augsburg at home last weekend. The Bennies will take on the St. Olaf Oles this Saturday, Oct. 9, starting at 3:30 p.m. on the CSB soccer field.
Fans are still required to be masked when indoors at the Sister Lois Wedl Athletic Center. Live stats and video of Saturday's game will be available here.
About the Oles
The Oles are 4-5-1 so far this season, with a 2-3-0 conference record heading into this weekend. Their last game was against Carleton last Saturday and they lost 1-0. Junior Tessa Anderson leads the Oles in goals with six so far this season. Senior Lucia Ranallo leads the team in assists with two and also has one goal. Senior goalkeeper Brynne Davis has recorded a 1.27 goals-against average, 37 saves, and has a 3-5-1 record so far this season.
Last Meeting
The last time that CSB and St. Olaf faced off was back on Oct. 20, 2019 at CSB soccer field and the Bennies would take a 2-1 victory over the Oles in double overtime. The Bennies had a total of 21 shots – including 14 on goal - in the win.
The Storyline
CSB was just minutes away from getting a win over Augsburg last weekend when the Auggies tied it up late in the second half. Olivia Miller scored her first collegiate goal as a Bennie in the 57th minute to put CSB ahead prior to the Auggies' late goal. The two teams battled through the first and second overtime periods with no scoring, settling for a 1-1 tie. Goalkeepers Annie Waters and Paige Kahlmeyer both had three saves each in goal.
Who to Watch
Erica Golenzer and Roxy Veldman both have four goals and one assist on the season to lead the team. Sydney Burns leads the team in assists with three. Goalkeeper Annie Waters has a 0.76 goals-against average, 26 saves, and a 3-1-2 record and Paige Kahlmeyer has a 0.79 goals-against average, 22 saves, and a 1-2-1 record.
