NORTHFIELD, Minn. –
Mollie Wise's big night helped the College of Saint Benedict hockey team reach a milestone win this season Friday night.
Wise recorded the first hat trick of her career to lead the Bennies to a 5-1 win over St. Olaf in Northfield. The win pushed the team's overall record to 8-8-1 – the most wins in a season for Saint Benedict since it finished 8-8-4 overall in 2008-09.
The win also snapped CSB's four-game losing streak, and bumped the team to three MIAC wins on the season.
Wise's first goal of the game came at the 11:36 mark of the first period, and was one of CSB's 24 shots on net in the first 20 minutes of play. Her seventh goal of the season came on the power play, and off assists from
Courtney Conlin and
Julia Pias.
The remainder of the first period was scoreless, but Wise scored the eventual game-winner at the 1:17 mark of the second off assists from
Annika Brodt and
Zoe Culshaw-Klein. Saint Benedict put 18 more shots on net that period, but the Oles' goaltending staff stopped them all, and the score stayed at 2-0 heading into the third period.
Riley Schneider notched the first goal of her junior season midway through the third period off assists from
Bre Hess and
Emily Lemker, and the Oles (0-16-2, 0-11) got on the board a minute later to make it 3-1.
Rylan Bistodeau scored the team's second power-play goal of the game at the 14:47 mark off an assist from
Julia Pias, and Wise wrapped up scoring – and tallied the hat trick – with an empty-net goal off an assist from Brodt at the 18:32 mark of the period.
Saint Benedict finished with 56 total shots on net to the Oles 14. After putting up 24 shots in the first period, the Bennies added 19 in the second period and 13 in the third. Wise finished with a team-high nine shots on net and
Myka Stave added eight. Junior goalie
Kailee Medved made 13 saves in the win.
The two teams return to action at 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, in St. Cloud.
