ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict hockey team took one step towards reaching another milestone Saturday afternoon when it shut out St. Olaf 4-0 to complete the season sweep of the Oles.
The win pushes the team's overall record to 9-8-1 – the most wins for the program since 2001-02. The Bennies haven't won 10 or more games in a season since finishing 10-15 in 2001-02.
Saturday's win also marks the team's first MIAC sweep since 2015-16 when CSB swept both St. Olaf and St. Thomas, and the first time since that same season that the Bennies have swept two or more opponents. The shutout marked the fourth of the year for CSB – the most for the program since 2012-13.
After recording the first hat trick of her career Friday night in Northfield, senior
Mollie Wise was back at it again Saturday, tallying two more goals to help CSB to the win in St. Cloud. Her first goal – the eventual game-winner – came at the 8:37 mark of the first period off assists from
Annika Brodt and
Maria Wallace. Brodt's assists marked her 11
th this season, marking the first time since 2016-17 a Bennie hockey player has recorded double-digit assists.
The team's next goal came in the second period when first year
Emily Lemker notched her second goal of the season, this time on the power play, at the 7:35 mark.
Myka Stave and
Riley Schneider were credited with assists.
Courtney Conlin scored with an empty next with just over a minute left to play off assists from
Zoe Culshaw-Klein and Stave, and Wise tallied her second goal of the game and fifth of the weekend with 35 seconds left in the game. Culshaw-Klein and
Rylan Bistodeau had assists.
CSB finished with 50-plus assists for the second straight game and fourth time this season. Conlin and Wise each put 10 shots on net and Schneider added seven. First year
Ally Frantzick picked up her third win in net and second shutout after stopping all 18 shots she faced.
The Bennies are back on the road Friday, Feb. 7, when they travel to St. Paul to take on St. Thomas. CSB takes on two of the top teams in the MIAC in the next two weeks, facing the Tommies and then Gustavus, which is ranked in the top 10 in Division III.
