CSB looks to get back on track as season winds down

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict soccer team is looking to turn things around with only two games left in regular-season play. Saint Benedict travels to St. Paul on Wednesday, Oct. 30, to play against Bethel, which is No. 4 in MIAC standings. Kickoff is at 3:30 pm.

About the Royals
Bethel is 13-3 on the season, with all three loses coming from MIAC opponents: Macalester, St. Thomas and Gustavus. The Royals are coming off a weekend win against St. Olaf, putting their win streak at three games. Sophie Kendall is leading Bethel in goals this season with 12, she was also named MIAC Women's Soccer Athlete of the Week. Rachel Waterman and Lauren Davis are right behind her each putting up 11 goals for the Royals. In net Kaylee Peterson has been playing solid with a save percentage of .879.

Last Meeting
Playing early in the season last year CSB tied Bethel 2-2 in OT, making their overall record 22-1-3 against the Royals. Scoring for CSB was returning sophomore Roxy Veldman assisted by junior Megan Thompson. The second goal was scored by senior Sydney Sherek in the second half of the game. Kendall Konen finished the game with nine saves.

The Storyline
With only two regular season games left CSB is looking to stay within the top of the rankings to qualify for the MIAC tournament. CSB is in sixth in the MIAC standings after a tough 5-1 loss to the Wildcats Saturday. Bethel is hoping to tie or pass the No. 3 ranked St. Kate's, which is currently three points ahead of them in conference play. With the strong record CSB has against the Royals they are hoping to come out on top and have a big game in St. Paul.

Who to Watch
Sydney Sherek scored CSB's lone goal last game, her second of the season. Sherek's goal was assisted by Roxy Veldman, who has four goals herself this year, good for second on the team. Megan Thompson leads CSB in goals and is in second in the MIAC with 14, and she is two goals away from tying the school record for goals in a season.
