CSB gears up for MIAC showdown at UST

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. The College of Saint Benedict soccer team is looking for another win after beating St. Olaf this past weekend 2-1 in double overtime. The Bennies travel to St. Paul, Minn. on Wednesday Oct. 23, to take on the University of St. Thomas in a high-stakes MIAC game. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
 
About the Tommies
St. Thomas is 10-2-2 overall this season and 5-1-1 in the conference, and is ranked 19th in Division III. Their lone MIAC loss comes from Augsburg 1-0, and they also tied Carleton 0-0. The Tommies are coming into Wednesday on a three-game win streak, most recently beating St. Scholastica 5-1. Their win this Sunday moved the Tommies' home unbeaten streak to 21 wins. Tessa Trettel is a junior leading the team with six goals and 13 points. Paige Cater has four goals and seven assists, making her No. 3 in the MIAC for total assists. 
 
Last Meeting
Last season, these two teams met up early in the year and CSB lost 2-1 in double OT. Briana Griffin scored CSB's goal and Roxy Veldman had the assist. Overall against St. Thomas, the Bennies are 13-13-3. The Tommies have won the last two meetings between the teams, but CSB hopes to change that Wednesday.
 
The Storyline
The CSB vs. St. Thomas game is always a rivalry, and this year is no different. This is a big game for both teams as the winner will move up in the MIAC rankings to be tied at No.1 with Augsburg. CSB is hoping to continue to gain momentum going into the MIAC tournament with only four games left in regular season. CSB also hopes to pick up a third win against a top-25 team this season. To start the year, CSB beat No. 17 UW-La Crosse and No. 19 UW-Whitewater.
 
Who to Watch
Megan Thompson is leading the MIAC with total points and total goals, coming off a two-goal game this weekend. Thompson was also named MIAC Athlete of the Week. She is currently two goals away from tying the CSB record for goals in a season. Kendall Konen has been playing well in net, her save percentage is at .75, she had a few big saves this past weekend to help keep CSB in the game.
