ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – After a wet, snowy win against Augsburg Saturday afternoon, the College of Saint Benedict soccer team hits the road Tuesday evening for a showdown against two of the MIAC's top teams.
CSB – which is unbeaten thus far in MIAC play – heads to Minneapolis to take on Augsburg, which is also unbeaten in the conference, for a 7:30 p.m. game that could have big implications in the MIAC playoff race in the coming weeks.
About the Auggies
Augsburg heads into Tuesday's game riding a six-game unbeaten streak, with its last loss coming on Sept. 22 to St. Scholastica. The Auggies have a win over St. Thomas – which is still ranked – as well as big region wins over UW-Eau Claire and Loras. Ashley St. Aubin leads the MIAC in goals (12) and is second with 27 points, and keeper Emily Chapman is third in the league with 56 saves.
Last Meeting
Last year in Minneapolis, Saint Benedict beat the Auggies 2-1 – the team's first win at Edor Nelson Field since 2010.
Mara Flaherty scored in the 16
th minute of the game to make it 1-0, and scored the eventual game-winner just three minutes into the second half off an assist from
Abby Welsch.
Kendall Koenen made eight saves, including one late save to help preserve the win.
The Storyline
Augsburg sits atop the MIAC women's soccer leaderboard heading into Tuesday's showdown, but Saint Benedict is right behind. The Auggies are 5-0-1 in MIAC play while CSB is 4-0-1, so Tuesday's game could help determine the eventual regular-season champion – or at least home-field advantage for the MIAC Tournament. After a big win against the Auggies last year, CSB heads to Minneapolis with some confidence and looks to pick up another big win on the road.
