CoSIDA Release
ST. JOSEPH, Minn. –
Chelsey Guetter's hard work doesn't stop when she leaves the hardwoods of Claire Lynch Hall, and the senior's efforts in the classroom are being recognized once again.
Guetter earned CoSIDA Academic All-America Second Team honors, the association announced Wednesday morning. The Wabasso, Minn., native boasts a 4.0 GPA in her communication major studies at CSB/SJU. The honor comes after being named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team in February for the second time in her career. She is the first CSB basketball player to earn Academic All-America honors since Michelle Barlau was named to the third team in the 2001-02 season.
Along with her academic honors, Guetter earned her second All-MIAC First Team honors this season. She was a three-year starter for CSB and wrapped up her senior season with stellar marks. Guetter completed her career with 717 points, 118 assists, 539 rebounds, 118 assists and 97 steals.
Guetter made her mark on the CSB program and will etch her name in the CSB record books in multiple categories. Her average of 30.8 minutes per game is the most in CSB basketball history, and her 2,468 total minutes played in a CSB jersey is just outside of the top-10. She finishes in tied for eighth with her 80 starts, and is also eighth in rebounds. She finishes sixth all-time in rebounds per game with an average of 6.7.
Guetter was one of three seniors that led the CSB basketball team to its best finish in nearly 10 years, and to its first NCAA tournament appearance since the 2008-09 season. Guetter started all 80 games she played in, including all 27 games this season. She helped lead CSB to a 22-5 record, including an impressive 16-2 conference record.
Guetter is one of just two MIAC honorees on the three Academic All-America teams, joining Bethel senior Abby Miller. She is also one of six student-athletes on the 15-woman team that have perfect 4.0 GPAs.
