ST. JOSEPH, Minn. — Senior
Megan Morgan (Winona, Minn.) delivered her strongest performance of the season Wednesday night (Dec. 10) scoring 21 points and grabbing nine rebounds to lead the College of Saint Benedict basketball team to a 67–45 win over Gustavus Adolphus at Claire Lynch Hall.
The victory snapped a 10-game skid against the Gusties, marking CSB's first win in the series since Jan. 29, 2020, and its first home win over GAC since Dec. 1, 2018.
Morgan, an All-MIAC selection last season, went 6-for-13 from the field, knocked down 4-of-8 from three-point range, and hit all five of her free throws. She also collected three steals in 35 minutes and surpassed the 800-point mark for her career, finishing the night with 801. It was her eighth double-digit scoring game of the year and the 38th of her career.
Lauren Arnold (Chanhassen, Minn.) added 16 points on 5-of-9 shooting, including 2-of-2 from beyond the arc, and went 4-of-5 at the line. She also tallied two rebounds and two assists. Senior
Kira Young (Hudson, Wis.) contributed nine points, five rebounds, three assists, and three steals, while sophomores
Alyssa Sadlovsky (Pierz, Minn.) and
Drew Buslee (Eagan, Minn.) chipped in seven points each.
Defense again set the tone for the Bennies, who improved to 7–3 overall and 2–1 in the MIAC. CSB forced 19 turnovers—12 of them on steals—and turned those into 15 points. The Bennies held the Gusties to 30.9 percent shooting (17-of-54) and just 22.2 percent from three-point range (4-of-18). Offensively, CSB shot 44 percent (22-of-50), including 10-of-22 from deep, and converted 13-of-14 free throws.
CSB opened the game on an 8–0 run sparked by an Arnold three and built an 18–9 lead after the first quarter. A 14–6 stretch midway through the second pushed the margin to 32–15 before the Bennies took a 36–23 lead into halftime. Early threes from
Emily Crandall (Sartell, Minn.) and Arnold helped extend the advantage in the third quarter, where CSB outscored GAC, 18–11, to take a commanding 54–34 lead. The Bennies closed out the win with a steady 13–11 edge in the fourth.
Saint Benedict is now off until Jan. 3, when the Bennies travel to Minneapolis to face Augsburg.
