ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – After playing a 1-0 loss at St. Olaf last Saturday, the College of Saint Benedict soccer team looks to add another notch in the 'W' column Saturday when it heads to Arden Hills to take on Bethel University. The two teams play at 3:30 p.m. at Ona Orth Athletic Complex in a MIAC contest.
About the Royals
Bethel is 4-4-1 overall and 1-3 in the MIAC and is coming off a 2-1 victory at Saint Mary's – the team's first conference win. Maggie Sipe is third in the MIAC with seven goals and fifth with 15 points. Brooke Ogne and Sophie Kendall have both recorded 10 points this season. Kaylee Peterson has seen the majority of the time in net and has a 1.09 goals-against average and 21 saves.
Last Year
CSB lost 3-2 to the Royals on Oct. 8 in St. Joseph. CSB tied the game up to start the second half off the foot of
Taylor Hedin, but Bethel answered with two goals of its own that Saint Benedict was not able to answer. Bethel held an 14-5 edge in total shots, including a 9-2 margin in shots on goal.
Who to Watch
First year
Megan Thompson leads CSB with six goals, 13 points, and is third in the MIAC with 33 shots. Junior
Jane Koch is second in the MIAC with four assists. First year
Maren Noble and sophomore
Sydney Sherek each scored the first goals of their careers earlier this season against Augsburg. In net,
Kendall Koenen is third in the league with 42 total saves. She is 5-2-1 with a .808 save percentage.
The Storyline
The MIAC is wide open this year, so every game is a big game for CSB. After losing Saturday, and a few days off, the team looks to get back on track with a win Saturday at Bethel. After Saturday's game, CSB doesn't play again until Saturday, Oct. 6, so a win would also help give Saint Benedict some momentum heading into a week of practice.
