ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict soccer team broke in its new field with a win Sunday afternoon, and the team looks to add win No. 2 on its home turf Wednesday, Sept. 20, when it hosts MIAC rival Augsburg at 4 p.m.
Wednesday's game is the first of the week for CSB. After hosting Augsburg Wednesday new field on across College Avenue, CSB hits the road when it travels to St. Olaf at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23.
About Augsburg:
Augsburg University started the season 4-1, and is 2-0 in the MIAC with wins over St. Kate's and Bethel. Last year, the Auggies went 18-5 and lost in the second round of the NCAA Tournament after winning the MIAC Championship. Ashley St. Aubin leads the MIAC with eight goals and 17 points and second in the conference with 27 shots. Seven different Auggies have scored this season. Marissa Guillou and Emily Chapman have split time in net and totaled 19 saves, one shutout, and four goals allowed. Augsburg defeated CSB 3-0 in Minneapolis last year in their only meeting of the season.

On Sunday afternoon in St. Joseph, CSB faced off against UW-River Falls in its first game at the new turf field. In the 65th minute of the game, first year
Megan Thompson found the back of the net for CSB, scoring her sixth goal of the season to put her team up 1-0.
Sydney Sherek passed the ball to Thompson in the box, and Thompson dribbled past UWRF's keeper for a wide-open look at the net. The CSB defense allowed just three shots on net, which were stopped by sophomore goalie
Kendall Koenen. CSB had the advantage in shots 26-12, including nine on net.

No. 22 CSB is off to a great 5-1 start this year, and looks to carry momentum into Wednesday's game against the reigning MIAC champions. The team looks stay undefeated on their new turf and move up in the ranks with two conference games on the schedule this week and one next week.
