Steph Bierman picked up three individual wins and was part of one winning relay Friday night to help the College of Saint Benedict swimming and diving team beat St. Kate's 178-118 in a MIAC dual at the Palestra Pool on the SJU campus.
The Blazers won 10 total events en route to the win, which marked CSB's first dual win of the year. Bierman won the 50, 100 and 200 freestyle races and was part of the winning 200 medley relay team.
Bierman recorded season bests in the 100 and 200 freestyle and was also part of the medley relay's season-best time. She teamed with
Emma Ridgeway,
Ashley Groebner and
Jessica Thurin to win the 200 medley relay in 1:53.51. Individually, Bierman won the 50 in 25.20 seconds, the 100 free in 55.22 seconds and the 200 in 1:59.22.
Rudin took second in the 50 (26.01) and 200 (2:02.83), and recorded a season-best in the 200 free. She also recorded a lifetime best in the 500 freestyle race, winning in 5:32.66. Teammate
Haley Chatelaine took second in 5:49.54. Sophomore
Katie Heller finished second in the 100 free in 57.64 and third in the 50 (26.35) and 200 (2:05.88).
First year
Ashley Groebner won the 100 breaststroke in 1:13.6, Thurin won the 100 butterfly in 1:04.13,
Jenna Humbert won the 100 backstroke in 1:04.67 and
Kenzie Young won the 1,650 freestyle in 18:42.47. Groebner also took second in the 200 breaststroke in 2:45.95.
Elizabeth Moline, Rudin, Heller and
Meghan Harder teamed up to win the 200 freestyle relay in 1:43.42. Thurin, Humbert,
Gaby Hagen and Ridgeway took second in 1:46.98 and
Alexandria Benham,
Lauren Noel,
Lynnae Boe and Chatelaine took third in 1:48.65.
First year
Gaby Hagen finished second in the 100 butterfly in 1:07.24 and Chatelaine finished second in the 500 free in 5:49.54. Ridgeway took second in the 100 backstroke (1:06.21) and
Grace Livermore took third (1:07.69).
Carissa Gaffy-Sanford finished second in both the one-meter diving competition (203.65) and the three-meter competition (214.5). First year
Brianna Lovato took third in both. She scored a 151.8 on the one-meter and 149.95 on the three-meter dive.
Young took third in the 200 butterfly (2:26.76), Humbert finished second in the 200 backstroke (2:21.52) and Ridgeway took third (2:24.63). Humbert, Benham,
Emily Schwen and
Eliza Zugg took third in the 200 medley relay in 2:03.89.
The Blazers return to action Saturday, Nov. 21, when they host St. Thomas – which is in the top 15 in Division III – on the SJU campus. Diving starts at 8:30 a.m. and swimming events begin at 10:30 a.m.
