Last Time Out:
On Sunday the Blazers sent down the Wisconsin-Stout Blue Devils by a 3-1 margin. The Blazers took command of the game early, getting a goal from forward Grace Vaughan just one minute after the game began. Vaughan would strike again in the final minutes of the second half, but the first goal proved to be all the Blazers would need. First-year keeper Heather Kaluzniak faced 18 Blue Devil shots but let none by her en route to her second shutout of the year. The Blazers also got a nifty first half goal from sophomore forward
Aly Hoffman who took a well-placed pass from sophomore midfielder
Peggy Renier on the right side of the box and smashed it over Blue Devil keeper Robbie Shelby's hands and into the net.
About the Pipers:
Hamline was picked in the preseason by the MIAC coaches to finish seventh among the conferences twelve teams. The Pipers however, appear determined to earn their first postseason berth in school history this year. They opened their season on a two-game road trip to Oregon where they dropped a game to Lewis & Clark and tied Pacific. However, since returning home they have outscored their opponents 9-4 and haven't conceded a goal in their past two games.
The Matchup:
The matchup of the day will pit the Blazers prolific scoring offense against a Piper defense that has held its opponents scoreless in three of its five games. The Blazers are averaging 2.6 goals per game and have two-plus goals in four of their five contests so far. On the other hand, if you remove a four-goal shelling when the Pipers played UW-Eau Claire, they have given up only one goal through four other games this entire season. Look for the dynamic duo of
Aly Hoffman and
Colleen Bouchard up front to attempt to work the ball in behind the Piper defense early and relieve some of that pressure.
