The College of Saint Benedict Blazer volleyball team (15-9 overall, 6-1 MIAC) went 1-3 this weekend at the Midwest Invitational that was hosted by Calvin and Hope Colleges.
Saint Benedict started the invitational Friday night against #1 Calvin College (23-0 overall, 11-0 MIAA) in Grand Rapids, Mich. Calvin took the first set 25-12 and held the Blazers to a .033 kill percentage. Saint Benedict played well in a tough second set, but eventually fell to the Knights 25-22. The Blazers held Calvin to a .135 kill percentage in the second set. Calvin College sealed the match with a 25-18 win to take the third set.

Chelsie Sobieck (Wyoming, MN, Forest Lake). Sobieck recorded 11 kills while sophomore setter
Kathyrn Gaydos (Savage, MN, Prior Lake) produced 12 set assists. Sophomore libero
Chelsea Rachel (Maple Lake, MN, Maple Lake) earned 15 digs for the Blazers.
The Blazers next match was against Albion College. Saint Benedict took the match in three sets with scores of 25-16, 25-9, and 25-20. Stats were not available.
Saint Benedict returned to action Saturday against Hope College in Holland, Mich. Hope took the first set with a 25-19 win over the Blazers. CSB had 15 kills in the first set. The Blazers played well in a close second set to even the match at 1-1 with a 31-29 win. The Flying Dutch won the third set 25-20. Saint Benedict earned 15 kills as they held Hope to a .154 kill percentage. Hope College sealed the win as they took the fourth set 25-17.

Taya Kockelman (Minneota, MN, Minneota) had 20. Rachel earned 22 digs in the match.
The Blazers last game of the invite was against Carthage College. Carthage took the match 3-0 with scores of 25-16, 25-20 and 25-22. Stats were not available.

Nicole Hess said, “We played some great volleyball teams this weekend. We played hard and had a lot of great moments. We are excited that we will be playing three of our next four matches at home.”
Saint Benedict returns to action at 7 pm on Wednesday October 19th, in St. Joseph, Minn. as they host MIAC opponent Carleton College (13-8 overall, 3-4 MIAC).
