Volleyball to Play Three Matches Over Two Days

Bennies battle Macalester before facing pair of WIAC foes

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. - A full schedule for the weekend is on set for the College of Saint Benedict volleyball team, as the Bennies (6-7, 0-2 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) are set for three matches over the course of Friday-Saturday, Oct. 2-3. Saint Benedict will host Macalester College for a MIAC match Friday night at 7 p.m. before heading to University of Wisconsin-River Falls for two contests Saturday, Oct. 3. CSB will take on UWRF (8-3) at 11 a.m. before facing University of Wisconsin-Platteville at 3 p.m. 
 
Saint Ben's enters the weekend off a five-set loss at Hamline University Saturday, Sept. 26. Senior Kali Jones (Annandale, Minn./Annandale) led the team with 15 kills. Sophomore Karley Dunham (Baxter, Minn./Brainerd) had a strong showing as she tallied 10 kills on a .308 attack percentage. With 21 assists, sophomore Ginny Schuler (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) led the Bennies. Junior Izzy Torve (Loretto, Minn./Orono) followed with 16 helpers. Senior Kate Stadum's (Brainerd, Minn./Brainerd) three aces were a team-high, while Torve, Jones, and senior Libby Burns (Watertown, Minn./Watertown) finished with two aces apiece. Defensively, Jones paced the team with 14 digs, her 10th double-double performance of the season. Dunham led the net defense with seven blocks.  
 
Jones tops the team with 190 kills this season, averaging 3.52 per set on a .220 attack percentage. Stadum sits second with 94 kills, followed by Dunham's 86. Torve and Schuler have been the masterminds behind the offense all season. Torve leads the way with 243 assists, an average of 2.50 per set, while Schuler closely follows with 239 helpers, an average of 4.43 per set. Jones and Stadum are tied for the team-lead in aces, as each has totaled 21 this season. Burns rounds out the top-three with 19 aces.  
 
On the defensive end, Jones paces the team with 173 digs, averaging 3.20 per set. Sophomore Brooke Siegle (Norwood Young America, Minn./Waconia) and Torve follow with 112 and 99, respectively. Dunham holds the team-lead in blocks with 50, followed by 27 rejections from sophomore Sydney Elliott (Saint Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall). Senior Brooke Andres' (Marshall, Minn./Marshall) 20 stuffs are good for third on the Bennies squad. 
 
Saint Benedict will face Macalester (7-7, 2-0 MIAC) for the 43rd time since 1993. The Bennies own a commanding 37-5 advantage in the series, including a 14-match win streak over the Scots. Last year, Saint Ben's walked away victorious after a five-set battle Oct. 3, 2025. Jones led the team with 25 digs, 12 kills and three aces. Torve notched a team-best 24 assists, while Mackenzie Knofczynski led the net defense with six blocks. Macalester most recently upended The College of Saint Scholastica in five sets Saturday, Sept. 26. 
 
CSB and UW-River Falls will meet for the 15th time since 1994. The series stands at 10-4 in favor of the Bennies, who swept the Falcons in the most recent matchup Oct. 4, 2025. Jones collected a team-best nine kills, while Knofczynski led the way with five blocks. Chaeli Haupert tallied a team-leading 18 digs and Schuler registered the team-high in assists with 14. UWRF comes into the weekend off a three-set loss to No. 1 University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. The Falcons will battle UW-Platteville (10-4) Friday night, Oct. 2, before facing Saint Benedict.  
 
A slim history since 1994, the Bennies will battle the Pioneers for just the sixth time. CSB sits ahead in the series, 5-1, but the two teams have not met since 2014. Saint Ben's snatched a sweep in the contest Aug. 29, 2014. Laura Schmitt led the team with 10 kills, while Taya Kockelman tallied a team-high 36 assists. Meghan Koop notched the team-lead in aces with three. The defensive efforts were led by 17 digs from Victoria Nass, one of four CSB players to finish with double-digit digs. UWP most recently pulled out a five-set win over Loras College Wednesday, Sept. 30. After facing UW-River Falls Friday night, the Pioneers will take on St. Catherine University Saturday morning before battling the Bennies.
