The College of Saint Benedict Blazers (2-2 MIAC, 5-3 overall) notched another MIAC win against the Bethel University Royals (1-2-2 MIAC, 6-3-1 overall) today in St. Joseph, Minn. The Blazers shut out the Royals with a score of 3-0. The Blazers jumped up to the 5th rank in the MIAC after today's win.
Fueling the Blazer offense was sophomore defender Chelsi Larson (Minnesota City, MN, Cotter) scoring the first goal with 3:15 left in the first half. Larson leads the Blazers in scoring, with 3 goals so far this season. The goal was double assisted, with first year midfielder Stephanie Gibbs (Plymouth, MN, Robbinsdale Armstrong) passing the ball to senior midfielder Annie Haws (Avon, MN, Saint John's Prepatory) who then assisted Larson with the goal.
The Blazers weren't satisfied with just a one goal shut out however. At the 56:38 mark, junior Alison Tourville (Plymouth, MN , Armstrong) scored for the Blazers, with the assist credited to senior forward Tina Lisk (Louisville, CO, Monarch). Also scoring for the Blazers was senior Allyson Draxler (Plymouth, MN , Benilde-St. Margaret's). Draxler's goal came late in the second half. The Blazers defense was also outstanding. Junior goalkeeper Shannon Strohm (Burnsville, MN, Apple Valley ) shut out the Royals and racked up seven saves.
The Blazers will return to their home soccer field to face another MIAC foe, the St. Olaf Oles, this Saturday, September 27th at 1 p.m.
