ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – No matter what events she was asked to swim this weekend, Kenzie Young was successful.

Young finished the weekend with a trio of top-three finishes – including two wins – and one other top-10 individual finish in two very different sets of events in two meets for the College of Saint Benedict swimming and diving team over the weekend. For her big weekend, she has been named this week’s CSB Athlete of the Week.

To kick off the weekend Friday afternoon, Young won two events to help her team beat Hamline in a MIAC dual at the SJU pool. She won the 100 butterfly in 1:03.53 and the 200 fly in 2:23.82 – both times are new collegiate personal bests. Her 200 fly time is nearly two seconds faster than her previous personal best, and leaves her just a few seconds outside of CSB’s all-time top-10 list.

Saturday at the UST Invite, Young swam the 200 freestyle and 100 breaststroke. That marked the first time in her collegiate career she has competed in the 100 breaststroke, and the first time this season she swam the 200 free competitively. Swimming in different races didn’t seem to faze Young, as she took third in the 100 breaststroke in 1:12.02, and seventh in the 200 free in 2:02.42. She was also part of the 400 freestyle relay team that finished fourth in 3:54.33.

Friday’s wins marked the fifth and sixth individual wins of the season for Young, who has 15 total top-five finishes to her name in her senior season.

Young and her teammates have two meets left before the 2018 MIAC Championships. CSB is at Carleton this Saturday, Jan. 20, and competes at Gustavus Saturday, Jan. 27. The conference meet runs Feb. 15-17 in Minneapolis.
