ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict went unbeaten in its first weekend of play in 2020, and first year goalie Ally Frantzick had a big weekend in the net to help her team’s cause.
Frantzick played both games of CSB’s nonconference series at Concordia-Wisconsin, and added a win and a tie to her season total over the course of her two games. For her solid play, Frantzick is this week’s CSB Athlete of the Week.
Friday’s game against the Falcons marked the fourth start of Frantzick’s Saint Benedict career, and she allowed a single goal in 60 minutes to help her team to a 2-1 win – CSB’s fifth win of the season. She played all 65 minutes as the two teams played to overtime Saturday, and helped CSB wrap up the weekend with a 3-3 tie.
In the first game of the weekend, Frantzick made 25 saves, including 13 in the third period to help keep the Bennies in the lead. Saturday, Frantzick finished with 23 saves, including four in the five-minute overtime period to help keep the two teams tied at 3-3 so keep the Bennies unbeaten in 2020.
Over the course of the weekend, Frantzick finished with 48 saves. She leads the team’s three goalies with 134 saves, and has a 1.79 goals-against average. She is 10
th in the MIAC in saves and fifth in goals-against average.
Frantzick and her teammates are back in action and back at home Friday and Saturday, Jan. 10-11, when they host Finlandia in a pair of nonconference games. The home series wraps up nonconference play for Saint Benedict, which returns to MIAC action Jan. 16 and 17 against Hamline.
