Biography
2017-18: Named team MVP ... qualified for the MIAC Championships in the 1,650 free, 100 fly and 200 IM ... finished 10th in the 1,650 free, eighth in the 100 fly and seventh in the 200 IM ... recorded the sixth-best 200 IM time and eighth-best 100 fly time in CSB history ... part of three relays that recorded top-10 times in school history ... swam career-best times in the 1,000 free, 100 breaststroke, 200 fly and 200 IM ... won 12 events, including her first four events of the season ... finished in the top-three 15 times...ends her four-year career with seven individual times in the top 10 in CSB history and as part of four relay teams in the top 10.
2016-17: Qualified for the MIAC Championships in the 100 and 200 free and 200 IM after studying abroad in the fall ... took ninth in the 200 free ... finished in the top 25 in the 100 free and 200 IM ... swam career-bests in all three races at the conference meet ... part of the sixth-place 800 freestyle relay team ... swam in four other meets as a junior ... recorded five top-10 finishes.
2015-16: Qualified for the MIAC Championships in the 200, 500 and 1,650 freestyle races and 400 IM ... finished fifth in the 200 freestyle, seventh in the 1,650, ninth in the 400 IM and 11th in the 500 freestyle ... swam career-bests in the 200 and 500 freestyle races at the conference meet ... also swam career-bests in the 50 free, 200 fly and 200 IM as a sophomore ... recorded the seventh-best 1,000 freestyle time (11:11.37) in school history and the eighth-best 500 freestyle time (5:16.23) as a sophomore ... took third in the 1,650 at the Minnesota Challenge ... recorded 19 top-10 finishes, including five wins ... earned Academic All-MIAC honors.
2014-15: First season ... named the team's Rookie of the Year ... named All-MIAC after finishing third in the 1,650 freestyle ... her time of 17:58.66 was a career-best and the fifth-best time in CSB history ... also qualified in the 500 free and 400 IM ... took sixth in the 400 IM in 4:44.33, a career-best and the sixth-best time in school history ... finished 11th in the 500 free in 5:17.50, the eighth-best time in CSB history ... also swam the eighth-best 1,000 freestyle time (11:13.62) as a first year ... was part of the eighth-best 800 freestyle relay team in school history (8:03.61) ... took 15th against Division I competition in the 1,650 freestyle at the Jean Freeman Invite ... recorded 13 top-10 finishes.
High School: A 2014 graduate of Brookings High School, Young was coached by Rusty Bernstein all four years of high school. She has been swimming for 12 years and won her team's Most Improved Swimmer award in 2011 and the MVP award in 2013. She also received Academic Awards all four years. Took second in the 500 free and third in the 100 fly at the 2010 Speedo Champions Series and won the 100 freestyle at the 2013 Speedo Championship Series.
Personal: Young is the daughter of Rhonda and Joel Young from Brookings, S.D. She enjoys baking, working out, and spending time with family and friends. Her major is nutrition.
