Madison Brown CSB Athlete of the Week (5/17/21)

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – Madison Brown saved her best performance at the MIAC Championships for last.

In her senior season with the College of Saint Benedict track and field team – and the final conference meet of her four-year career – Brown recorded career-best finishes in a trio of events and scored 10 points for the team in the process. For a big weekend to wrap up her Bennie career, Brown is this week’s CSB Athlete of the Week.

Brown started the weekend Friday with a pair of top-eight performances in the 100- and 200-meter dash prelims to guarantee herself a spot in the finals in both events. She took seventh in the 100 prelims and fourth in the 200 prelims with a then-career best time of 26.51 seconds.

That in itself made the weekend a success for Brown, who up until Friday had never made the finals in either event. Her best finish in the 100 was 11th as a first year in 2018, and a 12th-place finish in the 200 that same year.

Brown started off Saturday by helping the Bennies score six points in the 400-meter relay. She ran the third leg of the relay, and helped the team finish third in 49 seconds flat – the team’s best time of the season – and earn All-MIAC accolades. She also helped the 400 relay team take sixth in 2019.

Next up for Brown was 100, and she added another two points to her weekend total thanks to a seventh-place finish in the event.

Brown wrapped up the weekend with a sixth-place finish in the 200 in a new career-best time of 26.13 seconds. That finish helped land her the first individual All-MIAC Honorable Mention honors of her career.

Brown wraps up her four seasons with a pair of All-MIAC Honorable Mention honors – one individual and one relay accolade – as well as the All-MIAC Honor from the third-place finish with the 400 relay. She qualified for the outdoor conference meet all three seasons it was held, and the indoor conference championships two of the three seasons it was held during her time with the Bennies.
