As a part of a team win at the Hamline Invite this past weekend for the College of Saint Benedict swim and dive team, one swimmer finished the out with two individual wins her events. This swimmer was first year Morgan Murphy, and she is this week’s College of Saint Benedict Athlete of the Week.

The Hamline Invite being the first meet of Murphy’s college swimming career, but she took it all in stride. She took home two wins and a third place finish in her individual events, and also competed on one relay team.

In the 1,000-yard freestyle Murphy won with a time of 11:35.53, winning by almost 10 seconds. Murphy then had another win in the 500-yard freestyle, winning that by more than five seconds with a time of 5:41.50.

Murphy’s 1,000 time is currently fourth-best in the MIAC, and her 500 time is sixth-best in the MIAC after two weekends in the books.

In her 200-yard freestyle Murphy placed third with a time of 2:07.80. In addition to her individual events, Murphy also competed in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

Murphy and her teammates host the annual Hour of Power Tuesday, Nov. 8, at 4 p.m., and they are back in St. Paul Saturday, Nov. 12, for the Roger Ahlman Invite, hosted by Macalester.
