The College of St. Benedict softball team currently leads the MIAC and is on an eight-game winning streak. Junior Sara Wennerstrand had a big week last to help the team go 4-0 and pick up its fourth straight MIAC sweep. For her big week, she has been named the CSB Athlete of the Week.

In four games played last week, Wennerstrand went 7-for-14 with four doubles and five RBIs to lead the team. She batted .500 and finished with an impressive .768 slugging percentage. Wennerstrand’s biggest game came in a 5-3 win against Gustavus when she went 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs, including the eventual game-winning run to complete the sweep of the Gusties.

Wennerstrand also went 2-for-3 with an RBI in CSB’s first game against Carleton Wednesday, a 5-1 victory. Saint Benedict swept the Knights and then swept the Gusties to improve to 19-5 overall and 8-0 in the MIAC.

Wennerstrand continued by having a perfect fielding percentage with seven putouts, 14 assists and no errors from her position at shortstop. She is currently second in the MIAC in RBIs (28), third with 35 hits and sixth in slugging percentage (.658).

Overall this season, Wennerstrand leads CSB with a .443 batting average, 35 hits and is tied for the team lead with 28 RBIs and three home runs. She is also second on the team with eight doubles.

The CSB softball team’s next game is at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 11 at its home field against Augsburg.
