MADISON, Wis. — First-year Ashley Fischer (Madison Lake, Minn.) of the College of Saint Benedict lacrosse team (2-0) earned Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Kwik Trip Defensive Player of the Week honors on Tuesday (March 17).
Fischer, a goalkeeper, nearly recorded a shutout in CSB's 21-1 home win over the Milwaukee School of Engineering. She made six saves and allowed just one goal, holding MSOE scoreless for more than 51 minutes before surrendering a score at the nine-minute mark of the fourth quarter. The recognition marks her first career athlete of the week award and the first time a CSB lacrosse player has received the honor during the program's second season in the WIAC.
Through two games (120 minutes), Fischer has allowed just three goals. The Bennies return to action March 21 at Carroll in Waukesha, Wis., before facing No. 18 University of Chicago on March 22 in Chicago, Ill.
