Preview - CSB lacrosse continues season-opening home stand by hosting MSOE on Saturday

ST. JOSEPH, Minn.  -- The College of Saint Benedict lacrosse team (1-0) continues its season-opening two-game home stand on Saturday, March 14, when it hosts the Milwaukee School of Engineering (1-4) in nonconference play. Opening draw is scheduled for noon in at the CSB Athletics Turf Field.

CSB opened the 2026 season with a 21-2 home victory over Edgewood on March 7. A year ago, the Bennies finished with an 11-6 record, including a 7-2 mark that placed them second in the WIAC standings. Saint Ben's offense totaled 244 goals on 558 shots for a .437 shooting percentage while averaging 32.8 shots per game. The Bennies, which has accumulated two conference titles (MWLC) plus a second place finish a year ago in the WIAC, were successful on 78 percent of their clears (230-for-295), held a 420-335 advantage in ground balls and forced 191 turnovers.

WHO TO WATCH FOR CSB
Senior attacker Sami Hackley (Plymouth, Minn.) scored seven goals and added three assists to lead Saint Benedict to the dominant season-opening victory over Edgewood.

The Bennies opened the season in commanding fashion behind Hackley's 10-point performance and a five-goal effort from sophomore attacker Ava Mosley (Stillwater, Minn.).

Junior midfielder Lizzie Schrubbe (Andover, Minn.) added two goals and four assists, while first-year goalkeeper Ashley Fischer (Madison Lake, Minn.) allowed just two goals to earn her first collegiate victory in net for Saint Benedict.

Saint Benedict controlled the game from the start, finishing with a 54-6 advantage in shots and a 26-2 edge in shots on goal. The Bennies also forced 30 Edgewood turnovers and went a perfect 16-for-16 on clears.

First-year attacker Rayna Malmberg (Stillwater, Minn.) scored two goals and added three assists, while fellow first-year Emma Theisen (Rosemount, Minn) finished with two goals and an assist as both recorded the first goals of their collegiate careers.

Hackley now has 138 career goals and a program-best 170 points. She has 34 multi-goal games in her career.  Mosley now has 55 goals, 71 total points and 13 multi-goal games in her career. Schrubbe has pushed her career total to 50 goals and 120 assists.

SCOUTING MSOE
MSOE enters Saturday's matchup with a 1-4 record following a 16-3 victory over Elmhurst on March 12.

The Raiders are led by head coach Terra Ringo, who has directed the program since 2022. In addition to the win over Elmhurst, MSOE has losses to Augustana (Ill.), 11-7; Carroll, 12-4; and UW-River Falls, 20-2.

As a team, the Raiders have scored 34 goals with 14 assists while averaging 26 shots per game. Chloe Ninmann leads the team with 11 goals, while Ashlyn Bode has four goals and Vayda Flower has a team-best six assists.

SERIES NOTES
Saint Benedict holds a 2-0 advantage in the all-time series, including a 13-5 win last season at Viets Field in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Mosley scored three goals in that victory.

UP NEXT FOR CSB
Following Saturday's game, Saint Benedict travels to Waukesha, Wisconsin, for a pair of nonconference contests. The Bennies face Carroll on March 21 and Chicago on March 22.
CSB opens WIAC play March 25 when UW-River Falls visits St. Joseph.
