COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Senior
Justus Floren recorded her third career All-MIAC performance and finished second in the pentathlon competition which opened the MIAC Championships on Thursday (Feb. 27) at the Donald McNeely Spectrum.
As a result, Floren gives CSB indoor track and field eight points heading into the MIAC Championships on Feb. 28-March 1. The track and field competition begins tomorrow (Friday, Feb. 28) at 4:30 p.m., at the Donald McNeely Spectrum. Elle Thorson of Bethel won the pentathlon with 3,387 points and 10 team points.
On Thursday, Floren recorded her second-best career mark in the pentathlon with 3,281 points, just off her best total of 3,288 in 2023 for third all-time at CSB. However, Floren's point total is the best by a St. Ben's student-athlete at the indoor MIAC Championship since Jenna Degen had 3,326 points in winning her second MIAC pentathlon title in 2019. Floren also had CSB's sixth performance of 3,000 points or better since 2017. For the senior from Sauk Rapids, Minn., she now has three All-MIAC and one All-MIAC honorable mention performances in the pentathlon in her career at CSB. Aside from her runner-up finish 2025, she was second with 3,064 points in 2022; third in 2023 with 3,097 points and fourth in 2024 with 2,963 points.
Floren won two of the five events (long jump, 800-meters) and was top three in four of the five events. Her performance in the long jump was especially noteworthy. She recorded a jump of 5.52M – 18-01, a mark which tied Julia Renner for second all-time at CSB (5.52, 2011) and was just .02 away from the record of 5.54M-18.2.11 by Patti Clintsman in 2005. With the near record-breaking long jump, she had the 40
th best performance in DIII and scored 706 points. In the 800-meter event, she led a CSB 1-2 finish as she clocked a winning time of 2:35.50 to earn 626 points. CSB's sophomore
Emily Koch was second in the 800-meter with a time of 2:35.71 as she earned 623 points.
At the multi-event today, Floren was also third in both the shot put at 10.82 meters – 35-06 for 583 points and the 60-meter hurdles with a season-best 9.43 seconds and 822 points. She also placed seventh in the high jump at 1.43M – 4-08.25 and scored 544 points in the multi-event.
In her first multi-event performance, first-year standout
Maisy Komastu placed 10
th with 2,497 points. She was sixth in the long jump by going a personal-best of 4.83M – 15-10.25 and earned 514 points. She was ninth in the 60-meter hurdles with a personal best of 10.33 and 652 points. Komastu was 10
th in the 800-meters at 2:47.27 for 492 points and 10
th in the high jump at 1.31M – 4-03.50 for 419 points. In addition, she threw the shot put 8.32M – 27-03.75 for 420 points. for 514 points.
Koch, who also competed in her first pentathlon, finished 12
th with 2,286 points with the second-place finish in the 800-meters her best event of the day. She was 12
th in the 60-meter hurdles by clocking 11.18 for 507 points. She was also 10
th in the high jump by going 1.31M – 4-03.50 for 419 points; 13
th in the long jump at 4.27M – 14-00.25 for 371 points. She placed fourth in the shot put with a throw of 7.48M-24-06.50 for 366 points.
