ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – In a tightly contested match featuring 34 total shots and 10 on target, the College of Saint Benedict soccer team (3-1-2, 0-0-1 MIAC) battled to a scoreless draw with Macalester (2-2-2, 0-0-1 MIAC) in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) opener at the CSB Outdoor Athletic Complex.
This marked CSB's second consecutive tie, following a 1-1 result against Wartburg on Sept. 14 in Waverly, Iowa. The Bennies now hold a 3-1-2 overall record and a 0-0-1 mark in MIAC play. Next, they head to St. Paul to face Hamline in a conference match at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21, followed by a nonconference game at Luther College on Sunday, Sept. 22, at 2 p.m. in Decorah, Iowa.
The match against Macalester saw plenty of action, particularly near the goals, with both teams' goalkeepers making key penalty kick saves. CSB senior goalkeeper
Annie Waters earned her second shutout of the season, registering six saves—five in the second half—while playing all 90 minutes. She also took CSB's penalty kick. Macalester's goalkeeper, Abigail Heuga, made four saves in her full 90-minute performance.
CSB held a 19-15 advantage in total shots, with four on goal. The Bennies fired off eight shots in the first half and added 11 more in the second. Senior forward

Macalester had a 4-2 edge in corner kicks, and the teams combined for 23 fouls (12 for CSB, 11 for Macalester).
