ST. PAUL, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict swim and dive team (2-1), which was led by two individual event wins by
Mary Morris and one each by
Ella Kowalczyk and
Claire Canfield, dropped a 150-93 dual decision to Macalester on Saturday (Oct. 26).
Morris continued her outstanding start to the season with two more individual event wins, which gives her six on the season. Morris captured the 200 freestyle in 1:59.47 or four seconds in front of the field. She also won the 100-backstroke in 1:00.31 as she edged Macalester's Verity Wray-Raabolle by :34 (1:00.65).
Kowalczyk won her third straight 3-meter board competition by recording a personal and season-best 207.80. She was also second on the 1-meter board with a score of 179.60. Also on the 1-meter board, first-year
Emma Netland was third, 160.40 points.
CSB sophomore
Claire Canfield captured her third event win of the season with a victory in the 100 butterfly in 1:04.75. Canfield was also third, and
Megan Bartels, fourth in the 400 IM with clockings of 5:00.32 and 5:21.88, respectively.
Junior
Rachel Schlueter finished second in the 100-freestyle in 56.35. After two events win earlier this year in the 50-free,
Liz Hansen was second in 26.34 while
Mikayla Haskamp took third, 26.37.
Bartels had a solid performance in the 100-breaststroke by clocking 1:11.53 for second with Canfield, fourth in 1:16.44.
In the relays, CSB had a pair of second place finishes. The relay of
Mikayla Haskamp, Schlueter, first-year
Grace Morphew and Hansen clocked 1:44.53 for second in the 200 freestyle relay. The 200 medley relay, CSB finished second and fourth. The second place team of Morris, Bartels, Schlueter and Hansen finished in 1:54.44. A team of
Lauren Sitzman,
Jayda Alholm,
Autumn Larson, and
Millie Pratt was fourth in 2:02.94.
In the 1,000-freestyle, CSB, which placed four in the top six, was led by first-year
Alivia Kortuem, who was fourth, 12:19.47. She was also CSB's top finisher in the 500-freestyle with a clocking of 5:53.40.
Next for CSB will be a double dual on Nov. 2 at home against St. Olaf and St. Catherine at the Warner Palaestra Pool in Collegeville.
