Gallagher, Smith and Ahlberg win titles to lead CSB Track and Field at Cobber Invite

MOORHEAD, Minn. – Kate Gallagher, Kalli Smith and Jaylyn Ahlberg recorded individual wins to lead the College of Saint Benedict Track and Field Team at the Cobber Invite on Saturday.

In total, CSB had 13 top-eight finishes to go with the three titles, three top-10 indoor program marks, and two runner-up finishes at the Cobber Invite.  Next for the Bennies will be the CSB/SJU Alum Meet at 11 a.m., on Saturday, Jan. 27 at Clemens Stadium in Collegeville.

In her first indoor track and field competition of 2023-24 at the University of Minnesota in December, Gallagher raced to a personal-best, school-record 60-meters clocking of 7.92, which broke her own 2022 indoor mark of 7.94. A senior exercise, and health sciences major from Fargo, Gallagher placed fifth in the competition. Today, she continued her fast start to the season by clocking 8.03 to win the 60-meters. First-year Grace Buntrock was sixth in the same race by clocking 8.25.

In the 1,000-meter run, junior Kalli Smith clocked a personal-best 3:11.18 to win the 1,000-meters.

Also recording an individual win was sophomore Jaylyn Ahlberg, who had a personal-best in the pole vault by going 3.55 meters - 11-07.75, a mark which ranks third all-time indoors in CSB history. First-year Ming Li Raidt placed third in the pole vault by going 3.10 meters - 10-02.00.

Senior Ellie Selisker opened the season by finishing second in the high jump at 1.55 meters - 5-01.00.

The Bennies placed three in the top seven in the long jump. Leading the way was first-year Sabriya Janet Farquharson, who had a second-place mark of 5.26 meters - 17-03.25, which ranks seventh all-time at CSB. Selisker was fifth at 4.80 meters - 15-09.00 with first-year Samantha Solheid placing seventh at 4.70 meters - 15-05.00 in her first competition at CSB. Senior Danielle Anderson was 11th at 4.13 meters - 13-06.75. Anderson also placed fifth in the triple jump - 9.09 meters - 29-10.00.

Senior Haley Joos led the throwers with a pair of sixth place finishes. In the shot put Joos was sixth by throwing the implement 10.99-meters - 36-00.75 and she had a personal-best 13.08 meters - 42-10.75 for sixth in the weight throw, a mark that ranks 10th all-time at CSB.

Also in the shot put, junior Lexi Torres was 19th at 9.35 meters - 30-08.25 with first-year Christian Smith grabbing 21st at 9.13 meters - 29-11.50.

In the weight throw, Torres was ninth at 11.57 meters - 38-00.25 with Smith at 10.70 meters - 35-01.25.

CSB also had four student-athletes compete in the 60-meter hurdles with first-year Anya Adelgren leading the way by placing 10th with a 10.49 clocking. Selisker was 12th in 10.84 with first-year Chloe Ostrem, 13th, at 10.94 and sophomore Emma Schuele, 16th, at 11.12.

Buntrock also ran the 200-meters and clocking 28.01 for eighth place. Also, in the 200-meters, Schuele was 12th in 32.07.
