Maggie Beckmann breaks discus record to highlight CSB T&F performances Wednesday

Bennies compete at both the Gustie Invite and U of Minnesota Running for Hope Invite

SAINT PETER, Minn./MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Senior Maggie Beckmann set a school record in the shot put and first-year Lauren Berg had a program-top-10 mark in the 400-meter hurdles to highlight the No. 22 College of Saint Benedict Outdoor Track and Field Team, which sent split squads to the Gustie Twilight and the U of Minnesota Running on Hope Invitational on Wednesday (April 26).

Beckmann continued her outstanding spring with a second school record (hammer) by throwing the discus 40.42 meters – 132-07 at the Gustie Invite. Beckmann's previous best was 38.93 in 2022 which ranked fourth but on Wednesday, she bettered that throw significantly and broke the school mark of 39.75 by Sam Imholte in 2014. Also, at the Gustie Invite, Kendall Bechtold placed eighth with a personal-best in the hammer throw of 40.18m – 131-10.

Berg had a solid performance in leading the way at the U of Minnesota meet. In the 400-meter hurdles, she recorded a personal-best and fifth best mark all-time at CSB with a clocking of 1:03.98 in placing eighth. She also finished 14th in the 100-meter hurdles at 15.73 and was part of the second place 4x400 meter relay that placed second in 4:06.33. Also on the relay was Emerson Knapp, Sidela Nyuga and Ella Young. CSB had another team placing third in 4:24.61 with a team of Kalli Smith, Mirijana Ganley, Keiley Maahs, and Brooke Verkinnes.

Also at the Minnesota event, junior Ella Young placed fifth in the 800-meters with a personal-best 2:20.41, which finished just out of the program's top 10. Kalli Smith was ninth with a personal-best of 2:22.92.

Keiley Maahs placed fifth in the 1,500-meters with a personal best of 4:52.65. CSB placed fifth in the 4x100 meter relay in 49.94 with a squad of Hailey Johnson, Tiana Johnson, Myah Nelson, and Kate Gallagher. Sophomore Justus Floren was fifth in the javelin at 33.65m – 110-04. Also at Minnesota, first-year Mary Kenney placed third in 19:03.83 while Elise Yeager was sixth in 19:22.02.
