CSB Golf Team will compete at the Rumble in the Ridge on April 22-23

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict Golf Team will compete in its second competition of the spring at the Rumble at the Ridge on Saturday and Sunday, April 22-23. CSB will compete on the Par 72, 5,704-yard Oneka Ridge Golf Course in White Bear Lake, Minn.

Hosted by Bethel, the format includes a shotgun start on Saturday, April 22 for an 18-hole round of stroke play. To follow on live stats for Saturday, click here.

On Sunday, teams will participate in match play with the top two finishing teams on Saturday playing each other, followed by next two teams in order, etc. For the match play live scoring, click here.

Renner leads CSB to 5th place finish at Gustie Spring Invite
In the first outing of the spring season at the Gustie Spring Invite (April 15), the College of Saint Benedict, led by Emily Renner's top five performance, placed fifth with a 336 or 48 over par. The meet, which was held at the par 72, 5,720-yard Emerald Green course, was originally scheduled for two days (April 15-16) but due to expected inclement weather on Sunday was shortened to a single round. Renner, a two-time All-MIAC honoree, opened the spring with a five-over par 77 as she was tied for fifth. During the round today, she had 11 pars plus a birdie on the 323-yard par four 17th hole. In total, CSB had three players in the top 25. Laurel Ward of Gustavus was the individual medalist with a two-over par 74. Bethel and Carleton tied for the team title with rounds of 29 over par 317. After carding a career- best round of 76 in the third round, sophomore Georgina Hinton placed 22nd at 244 (87-81-76) after placing 23rd in 2021-22. First-year Jamie Bimberg finished 23rd with a 10-over par 82. She had eight pars along with a birdie on the par five 454-yard 18th hole. Finishing tied for 25th was sophomore Sami Boerboom, who finished with an 84. She totaled six pars in her 12-over par round. Junior Hayden Boelter was tied for 36th as she carded a 16-over par 88. She had six pars on the day. Tied for 50th was first-year Donelle Decker, who shot a 20-over par 92. She totaled two pars and had a birdie on the par five, 454-yard 18th hole. First-year Maggie Roth was tied for 54th as she finished 22 over par with a 94. Roth had three pars.

Team Notes – 2022-23
During the fall season, CSB finished fifth in the MIAC Championships as the team finished at 980 with rounds of 330—332-318. Overall in 2023, CSB has 12 rounds for 3,937 shots with a low round of 314 at the D3 Classic in Hastings, Minn., on Sept. 18 (10th overall). CSB has had three top five, including last week at the Gustie Invite (April 15), and four top-10 finishes. So far, CSB is shot a round average of 331.1.

As a team, the Bennies' highest finish was a third place finish on Sept. 10 at the Georgianii Bluegold Invite in Eau Claire, Wisc. At that meet, CSB had a two-round total 676 after scoring 353 and 323.

Individual Notes
In 2022-23, CSB has been led by two-time All-MIAC performer Emily Renner, who has an average per round of 79.3 with three top-10 and three top-five finishes. She has 952 strokes in 12 rounds with a low round of 71. Renner, who was the team MVP in 2021-22, was 16th at the MIAC Championship at 241 with rounds of 80-83-78 for 22 over par. In the fall, Renner of Victoria, Minn., was CSB Athlete of the Week on Sept. 19. At that competition, she completed the first round of the tournament with a 2-over par 75, finishing with three birdies on day one. On the second day, Renner played the best golf of her career, with four birdies and one eagle on the scorecard, to finish the second round with a 2-under par 71 for a two-day total score of 146. With her second-round score of 71, the lowest score shot during the tournament, Renner earned medalist honors and placed 2nd individually out of 109 golfers.  Renner's round of 2-under par 71 on a par 73 course was CSB golf's official lowest round. The previous low round was held by Grace Todora in 2011, who shot a 1-under par 71 at the MIAC Championships at Bunker Hills, which plays as a par 72 course. She also set the new 36-hole record, shooting a two-day total of 146. The previous 36-hole record of 149 was shot by All-American golfer Kathryn Hauff in 2010. 

In 2023, first year Jamie Bimberg ranks second on the team second on the team with an average round score of 82.3 and has had one top-10 finish. She has 12 rounds and 988 shots with a low round of 77. At the MIAC Championships last fall, Bimberg was tied for 17th with a 242 as she had rounds of 81-81-80 for 23 over par.

Sophomore Georgia Hinton is third for CSB with an average round of 85.2. She has played 12 rounds and has 1,022 strokes with a low round of 76. She was 22nd at the MIAC with a 244 or 25 over par after rounds of 87-81-76.

Also at the MIAC, junior Hayden Boelter, was tied for 37th at 263 or 44 over par after rounds of 92-87-84. She has a 89.2 round average on 10 rounds and 892 strokes. Her low round is 84. Also Sami Boerboom, who averages 85.6 per round in 2022-23, had a low round of 78. She finished tied for 37th at the MIAC. She had rounds of 82-92-89 for a 44 over par 263. Maggie Roth has shot three rounds for 268 strokes and an 89.3 round average. She has a low round of 87. Halle Strunk has six rounds for 551 strokes and a low round of 86. She is averaging 91.8 per round. In addition, Donelle Decker has five rounds for 464 strokes for a 92.8 average. She has an average round of 92.8.

Head Coach Daryl Schomer leads Bennies
In his 12th season, Daryl Schomer has led the Bennies to top five finishes at the conference meet in each of the last sixth seasons. CSB, which was fiftl last fall at 980 (330-332-318) has now finished in the top five in 11 of Schomer's 12 seasons, including runner-up finishes in 2017-18 and 2018-19. Schomer has coached 17 All-MIAC First Team athletes in his 11 seasons at the helm. Also under Schomer's watch, CSB set the school record for the best 18-hole individual score in 2011 when Grace Todora shot a 71. Kathryn Hauff scored the best 36-hole individual mark in CSB history (149) in 2010, and the best 54-hole score (231) in 2011. Schomer has also had a part in all three team records, as the 2019-20 squad set the 18-hole record, the 36-hole score was set in 2018 and the 54-hole team score was set at the 2017 MIAC Championships. Schomer served as an assistant coach for CSB in 2010-11. Prior to coming to CSB, he was the head boys' golf coach at St. Cloud Tech High School from 2002-11. A former PGA professional, Schomer has more than 25 years of experience teaching and coaching all levels of golfers from juniors to elite amateurs.  In an effort to expand his knowledge of the game Schomer has worked with some of the top instructors in the country as well as several former PGA/LPGA tour players. In addition to his passion for coaching, Schomer also continues to compete at the state and national level.   He has qualified for and competed in over 35 of Minnesota's major championships with several high finishes.  Schomer has also represented Minnesota in multiple team championships. He attended The Golf Academy of the South in Orlando, Fla., from 1993-95 and graduated from Pierz High School in Pierz, Minn.
