Bodensteiner, Bedford pick up wins but CSB drops 7-2 decision to Piedmont

ORLANDO, Fla. – Despite wins by Jane Bodensteiner and Maria Bedford in singles, the College of Saint Benedict (3-1) dropped a 7-2 nonconference decision to Piedmont University (8-0) on Thursday, March 9 as part of the Bennies' spring break schedule in Florida. The Bennies lost all three doubles matches and four of the six singles contests. 

 "We played hard but lost some tough points today. We will try and bounce back tomorrow," said CSB interim head coach Jack Bowe, whose team will face Cedarville University at 8 a.m. (EST) on Friday, March 10 in Orlando, Fla.

In doubles play, Piedmont captured all three matches, including an 8-2 victory by Imani Vincent and Bri Laidman over Peyton Kopel and Anne Bowe of CSB (1-2) at No. 1. At the No. 2 spot, Dakota Wilkes and Abbey Venham of Piedmont took an 8-4 decision against CSB's Jane Bodensteiner and Maria Bedford, which lost for the first time this season in falling to 3-1. Then at No. 3, Brooke Tonnessen and Greta Nesbit fell to 1-1 on the season after an 8-7 setback to Sarah Row and Alyssa McSpadden.

In singles, the Bennies took victories at No. 4 and No. 5  as Jane Bodensteiner and Maria Bedford both improved to 4-0 on the season. Bodensteiner registered a hard-fought 6-4, 5-7, 1-0 (13-11) victory over Dakota Wilkes. Bedford recorded a straight set 6-3, 6-1 win over Mia Vasher. However, the Bennies lost the other four singles matches.

At No. 1 singles, Peyton Kopel dropped a 6-3, 6-3 decision to Abbey Venham to drop to 2-2 on the season. Greta Nesbit (2-2) was defeated at No. 2 singles by Imari Vincent, 6-0, 6-0. Anne Bowe (1-3) dropped a 6-0, 6-0 decision to Marion Sloyan at No. 3 and Brooke Beier (2-1) fell to Jordan Ballard, 6-4, 6-2 at No. 6 singles.
