ORLANDO, Fla. – The College of Saint Benedict (3-2) won the doubles point and picked up wins at singles from
Peyton Kopel and
Maria Bedford but dropped a 4-3 nonconference decision to NCAA DII Cedarville (6-5) on Friday afternoon. As a result, CSB ended the spring break trip with a 2-2 record and stand 3-2 overall.
"Overall, we had a good trip with a lot of outstanding play and effort," said CSB interim head coach Jack Bowe, whose team will face St. Catherine on March 17 as the Bennies restart MIAC play. "I am really proud of the effort of our team," he said.
In doubles against Cedarville, the Bennies won all three matches to pick up the doubles point. At No. 1,
Peyton Kopel and
Greta Nesbit (1-0) registered a 6-2 decision over Megan Van Dyke and Faith Triplett. At No. 2 doubles, the team of
Jane Bodensteiner and
Maria Bedford moved to 4-1 on the season with a 6-4 win over Jessica Spry and Grace Mahak. At No. 3, the squad of
Kira Young and
Brooke Tonnessen of Saint Ben's registered a 6-3 win over Madelyn Keenan and Molly Filpus. Young and Tonnessen sit 1-0 this season.
Kopel, a junior from Foley, Minn., moved 3-2 on the season at No. 1 singles after a 7-6 (7-3), 6-4 victory over Abby Totten. CSB also had a win at No. 5 singles from
Maria Bedford, a senior from St. Paul, Minn., who is now 5-0 on the season. She had a 7-5, 6-3 decision over Joelle Petek.
In other matches,
Greta Nesbit fell to Payton Krahn, 7-6 (7-4), 6-4. She is now 2-3 on the season. At No. 3,
Jane Bodensteiner lost for the first time this year and is 4-1. She dropped a 6-4, 6-4 decision to Calisa Bobula. At No. 6,
Brooke Beier is 2-2 after a 7-5, 6-3 setback to Lauryn Leslie.
