KISSIMMEE, Fla. –
Ellie Peterson recorded her first career shutout to lead the College of Saint Benedict (3-1) to a 1-0 win over No. 21 University of Rochester (0-1) and a split of two games on day two of the Spring Games.
With the win, Peterson, a first-year from St. Anthony Village, Minn., moved to 2-0 on the season. CSB tallied an unearned run to pick up their third win in four nonconference games in 2023. So far, Peterson has allowed just two runs across 12 innings in her debut season with the Bennies.
In the first game of the day, CSB dropped a 7-1 decision to Hiram (1-2). The Bennies will play again on Thursday, March 9 with games against York College of Pennslyvania at 2 p.m., and Illinois College at 4:30 p.m..

Peterson pitched a three-hit shutout to lead the Bennies to the win over Rochester, ranked No. 21 in the NFCA DIII poll. She had six strikeouts and a walk in throwing 83 pitches, including 54 strikes. CSB had three hits including base knocks from
Megan Erickson,
Tori Harren and
Megan Rasmussen. Swoboda and Rasmussen also had stolen bases.
Game Summary
CSB scored its only run – the only score of the game – in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Megan Erickson singled to open the inning and was replaced by pinch runner
Olivia Van Hout. With two out,
Lexi Hanson was a pinch runner for
Maddie Brey who had reached on a fielder's choice. Rochester committed an error on a ground ball by
Megan Rasmussen which allowed Hanson to score the run.
With that run, Peterson had her second straight impressive performance. She allowed just three hits and worked out of a two-on, no out jam in the sixth inning. In that frame, she had a strikeout, groundout and pop up to keep Rochester off the board.
Hiram 7 Saint Benedict 1 (7 innings)
Hiram College, which trailed 1-0 after three innings, scored four runs in the fourth inning and three more in the fifth inning to earn the nonconference win.
Trinity Meza picked up the win as she allowed three hits and a run with two strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings.
Elly Novak (1-1) lost for the first time this year as she allowed six earned runs and nine hits across 4 2/3 innings. In her first career outing, first-year
Olivia Wallace finished for the Bennies, going 1 2/3 innings and allowing just one hit.
CSB was led on offense by
Olivia Tautges, who had a hit and run scored. Also for the Bennies,
Megan Erickson doubled and
Tiffany Thompson supplied a hit and an RBI.
