On Senior Night, CSB Hockey clinches No. 3 seed in MIAC Tourney with 3-1 win over St. Kates

Bennies tied school record for most wins in season and set mark for most league victories

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – On Senior Night, the College of Saint Benedict Hockey Team continued its history making season by earning the No. 3 seed in the upcoming MIAC Postseason Tourney.

With two second period goals and another in the third, the Bennies (14-10-0, 11-7-0 MIAC) defeated St. Catherine (12-11-2, 6-10-2 MIAC), 3-1, as they tied the 2000-01 team for most wins in school history. CSB also record its 11th win in 18 conference games to set a school record.

At 14-10, CSB tied the season-best mark of 14 wins by 1999-00 team which finished 14-12-1. CSB's third place finish in league at 11-7 is not only the most wins in conference play but finishing third in the MIAC is its best-ever placing.

On a night when CSB make history, its two seniors – Ally Frantzick and Emily Lemker were honored.

"I am very proud of this team," said first-year Head Coach Lindsay Macy. "Our players came to play today and I am certainly proud of their efforts. What a way for the senior to end their regular season," said Macy.

The Bennies opened the scoring with a pair of goals in the final 3:45 of the second period. Sophomore forward Sami Boerboom scored her second goal of the season and eighth of her career at 16:15 off assists from Jamie Benzie (second of season) and Presley Kraemer (fourth of the season). Less than two minutes later, sophomore Morgan Cromwell tallied her first career goal at 18:09 for a 2-0 lead. On the play, sophomore Jenna Timm had her first of two assists on the night.

With 11:37 to play in the third period, St. Catherine broke through on a power play goal as Marie Reimer had her 14th goal of the season off assists from Kaitlyn Blair and Laura Denchfield.

After SCU pulled their goalie in the final two plus minutes, sophomore Presley Kraemer had an empty next goal at 18:03 to clinch the game for CSB and give them a first round bye in the MIAC Tourney. On the play, Timm had her ninth assist and Cromwell added her third assist.

Overall, the Bennies had a 25-to-16 shots edge, holding a 13-to-6 margin in the second period with an 8-to-6 advantage in the third period. St. Catherine won 53.1 percent of the faceoffs with 26 wins in 49 chances. CSB was led by Ava Stinnett with eight wins in 17 situations while Boerboom and Mia Lopez both had six wins in face offs.

In goal, Frantzick continued her outstanding play as she now has 11 wins this season and 18 in her career. She had 15 saves, facing four shots in the first, six in the second and five in the third period.
