ST. PAUL, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict Hockey Team (13-11, 10-7 MIAC), which had goals from
Aurora Opsahl and
Addy Hackley, dropped a heart-breaking 3-2 overtime decision to St. Catherine (12-10-2, 6-9-2 MIAC) on Friday night (Feb. 17). However, by forcing overtime and picking up a point in the MIAC standings, the Bennies are tied for third with St. Olaf with 30 points.
The Bennies, which already have clinched a spot in the MIAC Postseason Tournament, drop to 10-7 in the MIAC. CSB, which has lost twice in the last three matches in overtime, falls to 3-3 in overtime this year. With the No. 3 tourney seed at stake, Saint Ben's will host St. Catherine in the regular season finale at 4 p.m., on Saturday (Feb. 18) at Ritsche Arena. St. Olaf hosts No. 2 Gustavus in Northfield at 3 p.m., on Saturday after losing 1-0 on Friday in St. Peter, Minn. The No. 3 seed receives a first round bye on Thursday, Feb. 25 and will play at No. 2 Augsburg on Saturday, Feb. 23. With a win tonight, Augsburg clinched the No. 2 seed. The No. 4 seed will host No. 5 on Thursday.

In the setback, CSB rallied from a 1-0 deficit to draw even when
Addy Hackley and
Aurora Opsahl scored in the third period. Opsahl had her 14
th goal of the season (17th career goal) off an assist from
Jenna Timm. She also continued to break her own school record with goals in seven straight games and with that goal ranks tied for first in the MIAC.
In the opening period, St. Catherine opened the scoring on a goal by Ellie Skaja off an assist by Madi Fleming.
At 3:51 of the third period, Hackley had her first goal of the season unassisted. She now has three career goals. St. Catherine broke the tie on an unassisted goal from Laura Denchfield at 12:42 of the period. Then, with 4:31 left, Opsahl proved clutch again with a goal off Timm's assist.
In overtime at 4:11, SCU's Joslin Mumm had the sudden death overtime goal to hand CSB a hard-luck defeat.
Overall, CSB was out shot, 30-to-23. The Bennies were 0-of-2 on power plays with SCU, 1-of-5. Also CSB lost the face off situations, 32-to-10.
