Swimming and Diving Team records another big performance on final day of Rochester Invite

ROCHESTER, Minn. – On the final day of the Rochester Invite, the College of Saint Benedict Swimming and Diving Team continued to impress with 26 season-best times and seven lifetime bests as the three-day meet wrapped up at the Rochester-Olmstead County Recreation Center Natatorium.

The Bennies finished seventh among the nine teams at the invite, scoring 555 points. CSB competed against schools from NCAA DI, NCAA DII and NCAA DIII in the competition. DI Nebraska-Omaha won the invite with 2,018 points with DII St Cloud State second at 1625.5. St. Ben's finished seventh and ahead of DII Minnesota State Moorhead and fellow MIAC member Carleton. CSB will now go on break until competing on Jan. 14 at the SJU Sprint Invite at the Warner Paelestra Pool in Collegeville, Minn.

As was the case through the three-day meet, the Bennies consistently put together season and personal best clockings on Sunday.

Junior Lindsay Smutka continued her outstanding work in the pool with a strong effort in the 200 backstroke. She recorded a personal best of 2:10.98, which was over two seconds faster than her prelim time. First-year Lauren Sitzman had a personal-best in taking 18th in 2:13.81 while senior Mads Slavik was 24th in 2:21.56.

In the 100 free, standout first-year Rachel Schlueter established a career-best with a clocking of 54.46 in finishing 19th.

First-year standout Megan Bartels was 22nd in the 200 breaststroke with a personal best of 2:40.89.

In the 100 IM, junior Emi Wagner had a personal best in the 100 IM with her clocking of 1:03.37, which placed her 14th. Junior Hannah Tatge also had a personal best in the 100 IM in 1:06.32 as she was 18th. Bartels had a second personal best with her 19th place finish in 1:08.21 while first-year Ellie Blattner was 20th in 1:10.08.

Senior Fiona Rosko had a season-best of 1:14.04 in the 200 fly to finish ninth while junior Laura Jennings had a season-best in placing 12th in 2:15.35 in the prelims with a 2:17.01 in the finals. In 19th place was senior Mary Ridgeway who had her career-best in the 200 fly of 2:23.45.

Senior Molly Johanson was 19th in the 1,650 freestyle with a finals clocking of 19:07.27. In 26th was Maddy Ahlquist in 20:39.08 while junior Emma Vicker was 27th in a season-best of 20:39.95 while first-year Morgan Stout was 28th in 20:44.65 in the race.

St. Ben's also had several standout efforts in the 400-freestyle relay. The team of Schlueter (54.51), Haskamp (55.41), Smutka (54.27) and Emi Wagner (55.79) was 12th in 3:39.98. Haskamp and Smutka had career-bests in their section of the race while Wagner had a season-best.

In 21st place in 3:50.98 was the team of Tatge (58.89), Slavik (58.36), Jocie Larson (55.59) and Liz Hanson (58.14), who all had season-bests in their section of the 400-freestyle relay.

CSB also finished 22nd in the 400 freestyle relay in 3:55.15 with a team of Lauren Sitzman (58.91), Megan Pattee (57.00), Blattner (1:00.65) and Stout (58.59). Each of the relay members recorded their personal-best times in the race.
