ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – A tough, scoreless first MIAC loss to St. Kate's has the College of Saint Benedict soccer team on the hunt for some action – and some wins – to come its way. This weekend could be the Bennies' answer as they get on the road to southern Minnesota and Iowa for two games.
CSB kicks off the road trip on Saturday, Sept. 18 with a 3:30 p.m. game against the Saint Mary's Cardinals in Winona. On Sunday, Sept. 19
, the team has a 2 p.m. game against the Central College Dutch in Pella, Iowa.
About the Cardinals
The Cardinals have kicked off this season with no mercy to their opponents, coming into this weekend with a 6-0 record. Their last game on Sept. 15 was their first MIAC matchup against Carleton, which they won 1-0. Junior Haddy Falkman leads the Cardinals with six goals and two assists.
About the Dutch
The Dutch have also started off well in their 2021 season with a 5-1 record so far. The last game for the Dutch was Sept. 15 against Monmouth, which they won 5-1 on their home field. First year Grace Coates is leading the Dutch with five goals.
The Storyline
After a tough loss to St. Kate's, the Bennies are looking to for the opportunities to push through some tough defensive play and get on the scoresheet again. Both goalkeepers
Annie Waters and
Paige Kahlmeyer spent a half in goal, each recording two saves during the game against St. Kate's.
The team's offense also needs to find its groove again – after scoring 10 goals against Morris to start the season, the Bennies have scored just once in the last four games.
Who to Watch:
Sophomore Erica Golenzer is tied with senior Roxy Veldman for the team lead with three goals so far this season. Sophomore Caralyn Conners has two goals and one assist. Both Waters
and Kahlmeyer have each spent time in goal this season. Waters has a 1.10 goals-against average and six saves and Kahlmeyer has a 1.67 goals-against average and 11 saves.
