ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The COVID19 pandemic changed everything on college campuses around the country during the 2020-21 school year, including the College of Saint Benedict.
 
From dorm living to student programming to how classes were scheduled and run, nothing was the same. But that didn't seem to make any difference for Hunter Weiss. 
 
Weiss, a senior biology major, handled the change to the block schedule with ease in her final two semesters at CSB, and wrapped up her four years with a perfect 4.0 GPA. For the second straight year, Weiss is the Dr. LuAnn Reif Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2020-21.
 
The department's scholar-athlete award is given to the junior or student-athlete with the top cumulative GPA in the department. The award was renamed to honor Dr. Reif, who announced her retirement after more than 30 years as the department's Faculty Athletic Representative in May 2020.
 
Weiss earned a spot on the Dean's List at Saint Benedict in each of her semesters at the college. She earned CoSIDA Academic All-America First Team honors as a junior in 2019, and hopes to repeat that honor later this month. She is a two-time Academic All-MIAC honoree, another honor she looks to repeat later this summer, and was the recipient of the NCAA Elite 90 award for Division III women's volleyball at the 2019 National Championships.
 
Weiss wasn't the only Bennie athlete to maintain a high GPA this academic year. Of the more than 200 student-athletes on CSB's varsity rosters in 2020-21, 48 earned a spot on the department's Athletics Honor Roll in at least one sport in 2020-21. In order to earn a spot on the honor roll, student-athletes must be a sophomore, junior or senior who have maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or higher.
