NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict golf team finished the weekend with a pair of top-20 individual performances in its second tournament of the Spring 2021 season.
Senior
Emily Olson and first year
Emily Renner both finished in the top 20 to pace the Bennies, who took eighth out of 10 teams at the St. Olaf/Carleton Invite, held Saturday and Sunday in Northfield. CSB was in eighth after the first round Saturday, and held that position despite taking 25 strokes off its first-round score on Sunday.
St. Kate's won the team title with a 643. Bethel took second and finished one stroke out of first with a 644, and Gustavus – which led the field Saturday – took third with a 660.
This marks the second straight top 20 finish for Olson, who finished 11
th at the Battle at the Creek on April 18. After carding an 86 Saturday, she shot an 83 Sunday to finish with a two-round total of 169 and in a tie for 18th. Renner finished one stroke behind Olson in her first collegiate competition. After carding an 89 Saturday, she took eight strokes off that total to finish with an 81 and finished in 20th with a 170.
Senior
Bridget Amundson and junior
Grace Hillemeier both tied for 47
th for the Bennies. The duo both carded 98s on Saturday, and improved on their first-round scores with identical 91s on Sunday. Both golfers finished with two-round totals of 189.
The Wildcats' Jaycee Rhodes took home individual medalist honors after shooting a field-low 155, including a 74 in Sunday's second round. Bethel's Nicole Miller took second with a 156 and Carleton's Kristin Miyagi took third with a 157.
CSB wraps up the spring season this weekend with the 2020-21 MIAC Championships. The tournament runs Friday, April 30, through Sunday, May 2, at Emerald Green in Hastings.
