NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict swim and dive team recorded six wins Saturday evening in a MIAC dual with St. Olaf.
The Bennies won five individual events and one relay at the dual, held at the Oles' home pool in Northfield. Senior
Ana Birklid led the way with two individual wins and a relay win for CSB, and junior
Madison Slavik recorded one individual win, one runner-up finish and was part of one runner-up relay team.
Birklid won both the 200 back and 200 IM Friday night. She finished the 200 back in 2:14.53 in the first time competing in the event this season, and won the 200 IM in a season-best time of 2:13.97. She teamed up with
Jessica Milstroh,
Riley Engle and
Emi Wagner to win the 200 free relay to wrap up the night in 1:43.04.
Slavik helped the Bennies complete the sweep in the backstroke as she won the 100-yard race in the event in 1:01.58. Slavik took second behind Birklid in the 200 back in 2:18.84 in her first time competing in the event, and she teamed up with Milstroh,
Fiona Rosko and Wagner to take second in the 200 medley relay in 1:53.89.
Junior diver
Emily Quill picked up a win in the one-meter, 11-dive competition Saturday night as she finished with a score of 362.95. This is the team's first 11-dive competition of the year. Sophomore
Emi Wagner also picked up an individual win for Saint Benedict as she took first in the 50 free in a season-best time of 25.68 seconds. She also finished third in the 100 free in 58.01 seconds. Wagner and Birklid teamed up with Milstroh and Engle to win the 200 free relay in 1:43.04.
Milstroh recorded a pair of second-place finishes Saturday as she took second in the 100 breaststroke in 1:12.12 and the 100 fly in 1:02.40.
Molly Johanson took second in both the 500 free (5:42.28) and the 1,000 free (11:42). Birklid finished second in the 200 free in 1:59.82, and Rosko took second in the 200 fly in 2:22.13.
Saint Benedict is on the road again Saturday, Nov. 13, when it heads to Moorhead for its first tri-meet of the season when the Bennies take on both Concordia and Jamestown University at the Cobbers' home pool.
