ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – A pair of well-timed goals and another impressive showing in net for the Bennies' goalie combo added up to a 2-0 shutout of St. Olaf Saturday afternoon for the College of Saint Benedict soccer team.
The Bennies and Oles headed into Saturday's MIAC matchup near the middle of the pack in the conference standings, and the win lifted CSB into fifth place in the MIAC with a 5-3-3 overall record and 3-1-2 conference mark, while St. Olaf dropped into a tie for eighth (4-6-1, 2-4). CSB has five games left in the regular season.

Alli Voss put an early shot on net, and she and
Grace Navara both had shots that went wide, including a breakaway shot that went wide right for Voss. First year
Sydney Burns got the Bennies on the board in the 27
th minute when she took a pass from
Roxy Veldman and then got in front of the Oles' defense. Ole keeper Brynne Davis came out of the net to try and play the ball, but Burns put a shot around her to make it 1-0.
St. Olaf turned up the heat offensively in the second half with six shots on net, but first year
Annie Waters stopped all six. Junior
Clair Lehmann gave CSB some breathing room in the 75
th minute when she scored her second goal of the season off an assist from
Ellie Wohnoutka from the left side of the Oles' goal.
The Oles put back-to-back shots on Waters in the 79
th minute, and put up another shot late, but Waters held strong and CSB came away with the win.
Saint Benedict put up 16 shots, including nine on goal, while the Oles had 17 shots and 10 on net. Junior goalie
Paige Kahlmeyer finished with four saves and Waters came up with six saves in the second half to preserve the shutout.
The Bennies take the road Tuesday, Oct. 12, when they head to Arden Hills to take on Bethel in a 4 p.m. MIAC contest.
