Renner’s impressive front nine propels her into top 10

10/03/2021

COON RAPIDS, Minn. – After rain cut the first round of the 2021 MIAC Golf Championships short Saturday, Emily Renner was ready to get out and play on Sunday.

Renner, a sophomore on the College of Saint Benedict golf team, was one under through the front nine Sunday afternoon in the second day – and first full round – of the conference meet. She wrapped up the round tied for eighth to pace the Bennies, who are in fifth as a team with one round to play at Bunker Hills in Coon Rapids.

St. Kate's leads the team race with a 461 after 27 holes played – a nine-hole first round and an 18-hole second round. Gustavus and Bethel are tied for second with 470s, and Carleton is in fourth with a 481. The Bennies head into the third and final round just nine strokes out of fourth place with a 490 after carding a 331 Sunday afternoon.

Renner – who was tied for 16th after the first nine holes – played an impressive front nine to start the day Sunday. She was even through four holes thanks to an eagle on the par 5 fourth hole, and followed that up with a birdie to go one under. She finished the front nine one under thanks to a birdie on No. 9, another par-five hole. After a tough 10th hole, Renner recovered, and birdied No. 17 to finish the round five over with a 77 and in a tie for eighth individually with a 27-hole score of 117.

Senior Grace Hillemeier sits just outside the top 10 in a tie for 11th with a 78. She also birdied No. 9, and added a second birdie on No. 12 to finish the day six over. She has a two-day total of 118. Sophomore Georgia Hinton is tied for 24th with a 124 after carding an 86 Sunday, and Sami Boerboom is tied for 32nd with a 131 after shooting a 90. Halle Strunk rounds out CSB's top five in a tie for 42nd with a 137 after shooting a 91 Sunday, including a birdie on No. 13.

Bethel's Anna Tollefson shot one-under Sunday and leads the field with a 107. St. Kate's teammates Jaycee Rhodes and Greta McArthur are tied for second with 112s, and Gustavus' Erin Ericson is in fourth with a 115. A trio of players are tied for fifth just ahead of Renner with 116s.

The third and final round of the conference meet tees off Monday morning in Coon Rapids. The Bennies' first tee time is at 9:10 a.m. along with St. Scholastica and Augsburg.
